Charles Bent

Charles Bent, 80, of Faulkton, passed away Saturday, August 10, 2013 at the Faulkton Healthcare Center.
Memorial services were held at 2:00 p.m. Friday, August 16, 2013 at the United Methodist Church, Faulkton with Reverend Bill Hoffman officiating. Burial followed in the Faulkton Cemetery.
Charles Arthur Bent was born December 7, 1932 in Faulkton, SD to Arthur and Lena (Ickler) Bent. He attended country school in Faulk County, and he also attended Faulkton High School.
After schooling, Charles moved to Kansas for a period of time and worked with his cousin as a mechanic. He returned to Faulkton and joined the United States Army. During his service time he married Darlene Patterson on November 17, 1953. From their union they had five children: James, Jeff, Jerry, Jay and Julie. In 1955 Charles received his honorable discharge and went to work for various Faulkton farmers, was a janitor at the courthouse, and also ran his own painting business.
Charles enjoyed square dancing in his free time. He was fond of the outdoors, and spent much of his time fishing and hunting. He was also a member of the Oddfellows Lodge and a lifetime member of the American Legion.
Charles is survived by his children: James, Jeff, Jerry, Jay, and Julie; 10 grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; seven step grandchildren; his siblings: Delores Ford, Donna Bent, Bonnie (Robert) Meyer, Dick (JoAnn) Bent, and Roger (Mary-Ann) Bent and numerous nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Arthur and Lena Bent.
Luce Funeral Home of Faulkton has been entrusted with Charles’ arrangements.
