Clyde Coffey, Jr., 68, of Wessington, passed away Tuesday, April 28, 2026, at Avera Hand County Memorial Hospital, Miller.

Funeral service will be 2:00 p.m., Thursday, May 7, 2026, at the Community Church of St. Lawrence with Pastor Abe Bielenberg officiating. Visitation will begin one hour prior to the service.Ā  Burial will be at the St. Lawrence Cemetery at a later date.

Clyde H. Coffey, Jr. was born in Kansas City, Missouri on July 3, 1957, to Clyde Coffey, Sr. and Evelyn Session.Ā  Clyde spent much of his life in Kansas City.Ā  Through his younger years, Clyde excelled in many sports, especially baseball.Ā  He brought home many trophies and awards and broke some school records.

Clyde loved to cook and worked in many restaurants throughout his life.Ā  His biggest thrill from cooking was catering for Willie Nelson and his band at a Sturgis Bike Rally and Willie shook his hand and thanked him.

Clyde was a big Kansas City Chiefs football fan and loved to talk about them.Ā  He was really looking forward to the upcoming season to see how the new players were.Ā  Clyde loved to watch NASCAR and loved to go to local dirt track races and cheer on his favorite driver, Adam Brotherton.

On May 1, 2010, Clyde married the love of his life, Debra McMurtry.Ā  After living in Sioux Falls and Kansas City, they moved to Wessington.Ā  Clyde loved the small-town life.Ā  In nice weather, you could find him outside playing music, singing and sometimes dancing.

Clyde leaves behind his wife, Deb; son, Justin of Sioux Falls; brothers: Mike and Bernard of Kansas City; sisters: Debra of Kansas City, Carol of Louisiana, and Jeannie of Texas; in-laws, Dennis (Jackie) McMurtry of Faith and Dawn Alumbaugh of Sioux Falls; and many nieces and nephews.

Clyde was preceded in death by his mom; dad; brother, Prentice; sister, Elaina; and mother-in-law, Flossie McMurtry.

Reck Funeral Home of Miller has been entrusted with Clyde’s arrangements.
