Connie Huss

Connie Huss, 93, of Faulkton, passed away Monday, July 18, 2016 at the Faulkton Senior Living.

Funeral Mass were held at 10:30 a.m., Saturday, July 23, 2016, at St. Thomas the Apostle Church, Faulkton, SD with Fr. Christopher Hughes officiating. A wake service was held at 5:30 p.m., Friday, July 22, 2016 at the church, with visitation one hour prior.

LaVonne “Connie” E. Conner was born August 11, 1922 to Cliff and Mary (Culey) Conner in Castlewood, SD.   She graduated from Faulkton High School in 1940. Connie married Leo C. Huss on January 18, 1943 in Faulkton, SD.

Leo and Connie ran the Lyric Theater from 1957 – 1967. Connie sold tickets at the theater and enjoyed sewing for herself. She made many cheerleading outfits and other items for members of the community. She spent many hours playing golf at Lakeside Country Club in Faulkton. She and Leo enjoyed traveling, and attended postal conventions around the country, and in Puerto Rico and Taiwan. For 25 years beginning in 1975, they made their winter home in Mesa, AZ for six months out of the year. Knitting and quilting were also important to her and she made beautiful quilts for members of her family.

Connie was a member of St. Thomas the Apostle Church, Catholic Daughters, St. Thomas Altar Society, Lakeside Country Club, and the Legion and VFW Auxiliaries.

Connie’s life will be cherished by her family, her husband, Leo; daughter, Mary Ann Golay of Phoenix, AZ; sons: Mike (Jean) Huss of Erie, CO and Pat (Marsha) Huss of Custer, SD; four grandchildren: Mark (Donna) Stammer, Lori Stammer, Angie Huss, and Scott (Lindsey) Huss; and three great grandchildren: Kyle Stammer, Megan (Aaron) Wolverton and Ali Huss.

She was preceded in death by her parents; brother, Terry Conner; and sister-in-law, Dorothy Conner.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to the Lakeside Country Club in memory of Connie.
