CoRene Griffith, 95, of Aberdeen and formerly of Wecota passed away Saturday, March 21, 2020 at Bethesda Home, Aberdeen.
The family will hold a private service due to present conditions.
CoRene (Dartt) Griffith was born April 23, 1924, to Frank and Bada (Schook) Dartt in Brown County. She attended grade school and high school in Barnard, graduating in 1941. During this time, she also worked in her family’s restaurant.
She married David Griffith on Oct. 2, 1942, in Webster. David served in the U.S. Navy from May 1944 to October 1946, and during that time CoRene lived in Barnard and took care of their young son. After David returned from service, the family lived in Hecla and Groton before settling in Wecota in 1949 when David became manager of the Wecota Farmer’s Elevator. CoRene soon began working at the elevator as a bookkeeper.
CoRene was an active member of Immanuel Lutheran Church, where she and David served as Sunday school teachers. He passed away in 1994, and a few years later she moved to Aberdeen. She began attending St. Paul’s Lutheran Church and often visited area nursing homes to talk with the residents and play games with them. Her greatest joy was spending time with her family and friends. She loved attending her children’s and grandchildren’s activities as well as NSU fine arts and sporting events.
Survivors include a son David F. (Kathy) Griffith of Northfield, MN, granddaughters Kristin Miller and Carley (Bill) Stuber, and great-grandchildren Evan, Kora, Kate, Kirsten, and Carolyn; a daughter Darlene (Robert) Rusch of Onaka, granddaughter Vicki (Rod) Evans, great-grandson Barret (Teresa) Evans, and great-great grandchildren Cecily and Truman Evans; another son Doug (Tammy) Griffith of Aberdeen, grandson Adam (Maria) Griffith, great-grandsons Bennett, Beauden, and Brewer, and granddaughter Amy Griffith (special friend Travis Durnin); and several nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, one brother (Frank “Bud” Dartt), and two sisters (Dorothy Herr and Blanche Milbrandt).
Luce Funeral Home of Faulkton has been entrusted with Ada’s arrangements.

Your family are in our thoughts and prayers.
I have some great memories of your parents from when my dad would take us on a “big trip to the Wecota Elevator”.
They were very special people!!
My heart and prayers go out to all of you. Corene was a very special lady and was welcomed with open arms by our heavenly father. Both your mom and dad hold a very special place in my heart. All the wonderful memories of growing up in Wecota centered around Immanual Lutheran Church.
So sorry to hear Corene passed away. Our sympathy to all of the family. Prayers are going out to you all.

Sending hugs and prayers on the loss of a special lady. I think of the hours I spent at the elevator with Dave and Corene. SOOOOOO glad I got the opportunity to be part of the Wecota family.
We were so lucky to have folks like CoRene supporting us as we grew up. How many of our games did she and Dave watch? They were such great role models for working hard for their family and the community.
“We’re all here because we’re not all there” Wecota— a great place to grow up.
CoRene, was a wonderful aunt and friend. I miss her encouraging notes over the years. I will miss her smile and positive attitude. My greatest sympathy goes to the all the family and friends.
Dear Bob and Darlene,
Your Mom was always such a happy and cheerful person.
She and your Dad come to our place a lot.
It was always so much fun to have her come to Rainbow Lodge or visit with her at a school activity. Sometimes we would just run into each other at a grocery store or church after we both moved to Aberdeen. Your family’s will miss her. Love and prayers, Claire Ann
Dear Griffith Family, My sincere sympathy to all in the loss of your Mother and Grandmother!!!!! What a Vibrant Lady. Always enjoyed seeing in years past. My Dad, Milton, and her would banter back and forth at the elevator many years ago, teasing and just plain good fun. Blessings and Comfort to All. She was a Grand Lady. Sincerely, Randy and Family
Doug and family. So sorry for your loss. Your mom will always hold a special place in my heart. I will never forget the time at the Cresbard ball field when my son Corey was 2yrs old. He was sitting on my lap directly behind your mom on the bleachers, tired and ready for a nap. He reached out to touch your mom's silk scarf around her bun to rub between his fingers while he fell asleep. She absolutely loved it and didnt mind one bit. She always brings a smile to my face when I think of her!
Dear David, Darlene and Doug,
I grieve with you for the loss of your mother, but also celebrate the fact that you had her in your lives for so long. I'll be thinking of all of you on Saturday. Stay well and be good to yourselves and each other.
Love,
Devra & Bob
Aunt Corene was my great Aunt. My Mom Janice Berg (Kluck) was the daughter of Corene's sister Blanche Dartt. My Mom doesn't have a computer so I am writing this from the both of us. My Mom always enjoyed her trips out to SD when she was younger. The last time she seen Aunt Corene was at her Mom's (my Great Grandma Dartt's) 90th Birthday probably back in the mid 90's. We know she is with her creator and look forward to seeing her again. The picture shown was probably taken back in the 60's.
Sincerely,
Greg Wise/Janice Berg
CoRene you never had a bad hair day. Definitely an icon who I will never forget🍓🤍
