Dale H. Kutz, 83, of Highmore, passed away Wednesday, May 30, 2012 at his home.
Funeral services were held at 10:30 a.m., Monday, June 4, 2012 at Our Savior Lutheran Church, Highmore with Pastor David Peterson officiating. Burial followed at Pleasant View Cemetery, rural Highmore with military honors. Visitation began at 3:00 p.m., Sunday, June 3, 2012 with a 4:00 p.m. prayer service, all at the church.
Dale was born on July 25, 1928 to Ruth (Traver) and Otto Kutz of North Hyde, Highmore, SD. He attended Illinois Township rural school. He had an interest in mechanics and how everything worked, which led him to attend Hanson Auto School, where he developed skills that he later used while running the Mobil Station. There wasn’t anything he didn’t take apart and put back together and fix in his own unique way, even his wife’s appliances.
Dale married Marilyn A. Weber in Highmore, SD on January 14, 1955. They lived in Fargo, North Dakota, Morris, Minnesota, and Arlington, South Dakota. In 1961, they returned to Highmore taking over the Mobil Station on Highway 14, which is now the D & K Outpost. He ran the station for 20 years. During this time, Leonard McDonnell sold him some calves from the Highmore Livestock and he started raising cattle and soon retired to raise cattle and mow hay, while purchasing the family farm; Dale enjoyed doing both. Dale was a lifetime member of the VFW and the American Legion. Dales love of children led him to driving school bus for many years for Foreman Bus Company serving the Hyde County School District. He was a 40 year retired volunteer fireman and a member of Our Savior Lutheran Church.
Besides his family, children, and friends, he loved bowling, playing cards, playing ball in his youth and attending Minnesota Twins games. He enjoyed his breakfast buddies and all his card playing friends. Dale instilled a work ethic and a love of sports and people to his children. Many “hot games” of pinochle, ping-pong, and badminton were played with his children.
Dale is survived by his wife Marilyn; son, Randy (Penny) Kutz and daughters, Kathleen Pogue and friend, Tom Marcelino and Susan Kutz and friend, Fred Manena; 11 grandchildren; five great grandchildren; best friend and brother, Royal “Shorty” (LaVonne) Kutz; sisters-in-law, Arlene Kutz, Joan Doxtator and Lynn Weber; brother-in-law, Richard (Debra) Weber; many nieces and nephews; special family: David and Sherrie Schwartz and Stephanie Kutz, and special friends: Alvin Gibson and Jake Vilhauer.
Dale was preceded in death by two sons: Wayne and Michael; his parents, Otto & Ruth (Traver) Kutz; six brothers: Carl (Violet Runestad and LaVerna Morford), Richard, Harold, John, Don (Dorothy Sarvis), and Myron (LaVonne Bell); parents-in-law, Fayette and Una Weber, and a brothers-in-law: Robert Doxtator and John H. Weber.
Luze Funeral Home of Highmore has been entrusted with Dale’s arrangements.

Grandpa,
You were one of the most influential people in my life. I will always cherish the fun times and memories we had on the farm. One time imparticular is when I stayed with you and grandma for the summer when I was 13. What I gained that summer was the sense of hard work and the gratification of starting and finishing a job. That lesson still to this day is what drives me in my life and career. You always had a positive outlook and made sure us grand kids learned a new experience everytime we visited. From a city boy driving a tractor to stacking hay and assisting in calves being born. Those memories I will always and forever keep close to my heart. I miss and love you grandpa!

Marilyn,
I am so sorry for your loss. Dale was a great inspiration to me. Loved his laughter and fun. He was always so good to me and I will never ever forget that. God Bless you and your family .
Randy,
I am extremely sorry for your loss. My thoughts are with you and your family.
Very sorry about your father, I lost my father when he was 43 years old. It is still very hard. My prays and thought are with you and your family.
I am so sorry to hear that Dale passed away. Your family has just suffered so many losses the last few years…it is so hard to try to make sense of that. It will be strange not seeing Dale in church when I am home. Please know that you are all in my prayers for strength and comfort. While there is sorrow here, there is celebration in heaven with a couple of boys being reunited with their dad!
Marilyn & family – we are sorry to hear about Dale. We have a lot of good memories of him even thought we didn’t live there very long. Like the time he was so gracious in letting me ride the school bus to town when Randy took my keys to work with him! He will be greatly missed and was dearly loved by our two boys. Randy & Cheryl Miller
Marilyn and Family……Just heard the news of Dale’s passing. Praying for peace and comfort for you as you mourn the loss of your loved one.
Marilyn and Randy. My sympathy goes out to both of you and the rest of the family of Dale. I have good memories of Dale at the station. He was always there to give me a hand if I needed it. He raised a good family and I remember all of them well. Keep in your thoughts that he was a good man. I have nothing but good memories of the Kutz family. God Bless. Dave Holmes
Marilyn so sorry to hear about Dale. Ward learned a lot from him when he worked for him at the station for awhile, also all the fun he had bowling and playing cards with him. Dale will be missed.
Marilyn, Randy and family, Just want you to know I am thinking of you during this sad time. I am sure you have alot of good memories of Dale. Sincerely, Jenise (class of 73)
Marilyn, you are in my thoughts and prayers. I always enjoyed Dale’s upbeat attitude and keen sense of humor. I feel lucky to have known him.
My brother Bill Millar remembered him working for the neighbor John Vondra when he came home from the service, then moving into town working at the gas station then buying it and the land he used for his farming operation. I only remember him in the gas station and the Dad of friends. He and Marilyn were always there with smiles and friendly help as they sold fireworks to all my kids and Grandkids to enjoy. It was good to see them in church on Sunday. I will miss his smile and hello. Keep his memoriy in your hearts.

Sorry for your loss. Anytime I visited Highmore Dale was there to ask me what was new in Colorado.
I will miss that a lot.
We shall miss you. You have given so much. My family will never forget all your fun and kindness. Rest in peace with the knowledge of a job well done.u
Marilyn and Family –
I’m sorry that I couldn’t make it back for the service but I just want to write to tell you what
a huge positive influence Dale was in my life. He was a great role model and I learned so much from him at the station. He had, and I learned, a never-quit attitude and the sense that anything could be accomplished through common-sense and a strong work ethic.
I’m confident that all of the others who worked there for him over the years, including your kids, all benefitted in the same way.
I have many good memories from that time – here are a few…mowing hay, helping to overhaul everything from
cars to tractors, thousands of oil changes, fixing tires (including the truck tires that others turned away, the fireworks stand, shoveling grain for the calves, all the brothers stopping by along with anyone else interested in cars, the motorcycles coming thru heading for Sturgis, watching storms come into town, answering the Firephone, Dale rushing to the Firehouse, Dale riding the Honda
ane more.
Thanks, Dale, Marilyn and family,
Sheldon Moysis
