Dan Lawler, 92, of Miller, passed away Monday, February 23, 2015 at the Avera Hand County Memorial Hospital, Miller.

Funeral service were held at 1:00 p.m., Friday, February 27, 2015 at the First United Methodist Church, Miller with Pastor Mark Johnsen officiating. Burial followed at G.A.R. Cemetery, Miller. Visitation was held one hour prior to the service at the church.

On December 11, 1922, Daniel Patrick was born at home south of Ree Heights to John and Louise (Blaseg) Lawler. On September 18, 1954, he married Harriet Barrett in Miller. He was a lifelong farmer, rancher, and carpenter. In 2006, the Lawler family farm became a Century Farm; being homesteading in 1906 by Dan’s father. In 2007, Harriet and Dan moved into Miller and in 2013 moved into the Courtyard Villa. Dan and Harriet enjoyed snowmobiling and camping at the state fair. He was a great fixer-upper; making do with what they had for repairs.

Dan served on the Sully Buttes Telephone Board of Directors for 30 years, the Cedar Township Board, school board, and was a member of the Greenleaf Methodist Church.

Grateful to have shared in his life are his wife, Harriet; son, Steven; sister-in-law, Bernece Lawler; brother-in-law, Jim Barrett; nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents; brother, Ambrose; and sister-in-law, Charlotte Barrett.

Reck Funeral Home of Miller has been entrusted with Dan’s arrangements.

  2. Have so many good memories snowmobiling in the black hills in the 70’s. Especially the evenings in the motel and getting lunches ready for the days outing. Those were fun days. Dan will be missed
