Darlene (Melius) Holmberg, 86, of Cresbard, passed away Saturday, October 6, 2012 at the Faulkton Healthcare Center. 

Funeral services were held at 10:30 a.m., Saturday, October 13, 2012 at the United Methodist Church, Cresbard with Pastor Julie Nygaard officiating.  Burial followed at the Faulkton Cemetery.  Visitation was held from 1:00 to 8:00 p.m., Friday, October 12, 2012 with family present from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. at Luce Funeral Home, Faulkton.

Darlene was born at Cresbard on November 24, 1925 to Edwin and Frankie (Horning) Melius. She attended Cresbard School and a summer at Northern Teachers College.  She taught in country schools in Edmunds and Faulk Counties.  She was married to Clarence Holmberg on June 18, 1947.

She was a member of the Cresbard United Methodist Church and Devoe Circle, Order of the Eastern Star, VFW Auxiliary, Faulk County Extension Homemakers Club & a 4-H leader.  She loved gardening, sewing, taking care of her sheep & winters in Arizona with her family where she created a special bond with her great-grandchildren.

Her memory will be cherished by her children: Harold (Danette) Holmberg of Peoria AZ, Roy Holmberg and Cheryl Holmberg, both of Cresbard, Linda Ertz of Aberdeen and Sandra (Kent) Juhnke of Vivian, SD; grandchildren: Dalynda (David) Lundgren, Peoria, AZ, Timothy (Martha) Holmberg, Litchfield Park, AZ, Richard (Julie) Holmberg, Surprise, AZ, Megan (Bryson) Miller, Pukwana, SD, Haley Juhnke, Vivian, SD and Brandi Ertz, Aberdeen, SD; great-grandchildren: Jordan Hinds, Lance and Bradley Lundgren, Tyler, Madison, Abigail, Clayton and Riley Holmberg all of AZ and Sydney Stahl of Puckwanna, SD; sister, Eila Blikeng of Mt. Ranch, CA; brother, Lyle (Vonnie) Melius of Cresbard; sisters-in-law and brothers-in-laws: Darlene (Pat) Keefe, Marilyn Connell, Sharron (Joe) Pogany, and Dee Holmberg, all of Rapid City and many nieces & nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband and grandsons, Cole Juhnke and Paul Stahl.

Luce Funeral Home of Faulkton has been entrusted with Darlene’s arrangements.

(1Corinthians 1:3,4) May you also find find comfort in his promise of the resurrection (John 5:28,29)We all have the opportunity to see our loved ones again. We can trust this promise because God has furnished a guarantee to all men in that he resurrected him from the dead (Acts 17:31). “Him” is Jesus Christ.
