Darlene Konrad, 84, of Highmore, passed away Monday, February 2, 2015 at Avera McKennan Hospital in Sioux Falls surrounded by her family.

Funeral services were held at 10:30 a.m., Saturday, February 7, 2015 at the Church of Christ, Highmore with Max Kelley officiating. Burial followed at the Highmore Cemetery. Visitation began at 5:00 p.m., Friday, February 6, 2015 followed by a 7:00 p.m. prayer service, all at Luze Funeral Home, Highmore.

Darlene was born November 10th, 1930 at Mrs. Salmons Maternity Home in Highmore, SD to Jess Naylor and Mary Lorraine (Joyner) Fieldsend.

On June 12, 1949 she married Howard Konrad and together they farmed on the Konrad family farm in Stephan Township for over 50 years, retiring to Highmore in 1991.

Her many interests included sewing, quilting, tatting, baking, and crossword puzzles. She especially enjoyed the annual sisters' week in the Black Hills every summer and the other times spent with her family and sisters.

She is survived by her four children, Mike (Connie) of Highmore, Carla (YeeLai) Chiu of Sioux Falls, Jeff (Tera) of Highmore, Lisa (Jim) Hull of Sioux Falls; 12 grandchildren; 5 great grandchildren; four sisters: Katherine Henson and Mary (Gene) Shaw of Miller, Marlys Marlow of Pierre and Janice (Bob) Houdek of Highmore; one sister-in-law, Linda Wiley, Claremore, OK.

She was preceded in death by her husband of 56 years; her parents; two brothers, Willis and Neil; one sister, Laura; an infant brother; and Jay and Laura (Auntie) Rath who raised the children after their parents' death.

Luze Funeral Home of Highmore has been entrusted with Darlene’s arrangements.

  7. Our sympathy to Darlene’s family. I worked at the Dairy O during High School for Darlene, it was a blast! I will miss seeing her in church, she along with other ladies of the church liked to see what kind of purse I would be carrying to church each week as I tend to have many. As we also are going through grieving a loss of loved one I also pray that the love of family and friends lift you up during this time.
