David Allen Schmidt, 54, of Highmore, passed away Sunday, July 31, 2016 at Avera Hand County Memorial Hospital in Miller.
Funeral Service was held at 10:00 a.m., Friday, August 5, 2016 at St. Mary’s Catholic Church, Highmore with Father Chester Murtha, celebrant. Burial followed at St. Mary’s Cemetery, Highmore. A prayer service was held at 7:30 p.m., Thursday, August 4, 2016 at the church.
David was born in Miller, South Dakota on March 8, 1962, first child to Sylvester and Mary (Dolliver) Schmidt. He was baptized and confirmed in the Catholic Faith.
David graduated from Highmore High School in 1980 and then attended one year at Mitchell Technical Institute for electronics. He worked for various farmers in the surrounding areas until 1993 when he went to work for the city of Highmore, where he worked for the next 21 years. On December 12, 2014, he suffered a heart attack which required him to stop working.
Attending the car races and riding his Harley motorcycle were some of his favorite past-times. His Harley Davidson motorcycle was his pride and joy. He was a member of the ABATE motorcycle club in Pierre.
David is survived by his mother, Mary of Highmore; sister, Diane (Mike) Peterson of Watertown; brother, Gary (Jackie) Schmidt of Wichita, KS; and one niece and two nephews.
He was preceded in death by his father, Sylvester Schmidt; stepfather, Rodney Johnson; and two brothers: Steven and Daniel.
Luze Funeral Home of Highmore has been entrusted with David's arrangements.




David’s arrival in 1962 was big news in the Howe Boy’s neighborhood. Sad news that Doug, Donnie, Jim and Mike’s cousin has passed away from his hometown. Prayers for this family.
