David McGaugh
February 28, 1933 ~ June 23, 2015
David McGaugh, 82, of Chelsea, passed away Tuesday, June 23, 2015 at Rapid City Regional Hospital.
Memorial services were held at 2:00 p.m., Monday, June 29, 2015 at the United Methodist Church, Cresbard with Pastor Bill Hoffman officiating. A reception followed at the Cresbard Community Center.
David B. McGaugh was born February 28, 1933 in Cresbard, SD to Edgar Eugene “Gene” McGaugh and Inez Olive (Gabler) McGaugh. He attended school in Cresbard, SD, graduating from Cresbard High School in 1951.
David met his future wife, Donna Holt, in grade school. They were engaged on Valentine’s Day in 1952 and married on June 8, 1952 at the Devoe Church. Their first home was on a farm near Cresbard and then settled on the Holt family farm near Chelsea in 1956.
David’s life revolved around his family and friends, farming, pinochle, wood working and Rascal, and ice cream was a food group. Together he and Donna raised five children who were the very center of their lives. In addition to farming, David also worked for Foreman Bus Sales in Miller, SD, where he continued to be focused on the family with ambulance and bus rides, which included swimming and pizza parties for the children and grandchildren (and any other friends and extended family who joined in on the fun). David’s purpose in life as he worked to provide for the family included teaching his children and grandchildren to be independent, self-sufficient and making sure they had life skills. David loved music, poetry, nicknames and conversation. He would combine them into loving, playful moments and memories which are remembered with fondness. Many of the family and friends homes are filled with beautiful handmade wood items that he designed and created.
David’s life will be cherished by his wife of 63 years, Donna; his children David “Corky” McGaugh of Cresbard, Debra McGaugh of Rapid City, Krystal (Steve) Benning of Aberdeen, Sue (Rich) Fox of Nemo, and Scott (Kay) McGaugh of Alpena; 20 grandchildren; 44 great grandchildren, with two additional great grandchildren coming in the fall; and his two favorite aunts, Marion Stager and Eileen Gabler.
He was preceded in death by his parents; Gene McGaugh, Inez (Gabler) McGaugh and Margaret (Gerdes) McGaugh; and his brother Douglas McGaugh.
Luce Funeral Home of Faulkton has been entrusted with David’s arrangements.

Dave was a wonderful man and was devoted to family and friends. Cherish the memories and may they help find comfort.
I had the great pleasure of working on a daily basis with Dave at Foreman Bus Co. He always had a smile and a joke for me and encouraged me to better my life. He called me "red" and I will remember him fondly.
I had the pleasure of working with Dave at Foreman’s. He was always so much fun to be around! We had many good times!! He was a wonderful guy! I can’t be there today but will be thinking of all of you. Dave will be greatly missed!
With sympathy~
