Delores Hageman, 86, of Hoven, passed away Saturday, May 13, 2017 at Avera St Luke’s Hospital, Aberdeen.

Mass of Christian Burial was held at 10:00 a.m., Friday, May 19, 2017 at St. Anthony’s Catholic Church, Hoven, SD, Fr. Kevin Doyle, Celebrant. Interment followed in the church cemetery. A wake service was held at 5:00 p.m., Thursday, May 18, 2017 at the church with visitation one hour prior.

Delores Ione Bertha, daughter of Paul and Esther (Schlecht) Bertha, was born in Hoven, SD on October 28, 1930. She was raised in Hoven where she received her formal education at St. Bernard’s Parochial School and Hoven High School, graduating with the class of 1948.

Delores worked as a book-keeper for her father at his garage, and then later worked for Bill Meyer. Following that, she was the book-keeper for the Hoven Coop, working for many years until her retirement.

On September 12, 1950, Delores married the love of her life, Gillis Hageman. She was a member of St. Anthony’s Catholic Church and St. Anthony’s Altar Society. Delores loved setting puzzles, making pot-holders and making beautiful quilts. Those who knew “Dee”, as she was known to many, will always remember her beautiful smile and the warm welcome she extended to all those who came to her home.

Delores’ life will be cherished by her husband of 66 years, Gillis Hageman of Hoven; two daughters: Donna (Bill) Zweber of Hoven and Sharon Haverty of Aberdeen; two sons: Daniel (Angie) Hageman and Dave (Ann) Hageman, all of Hoven; 13 grandchildren; nine great grandchildren; and three sisters: Rita Turner, Betty Giese, and Mary (Harlan) Rausch.

She was preceded in death by her parents; brothers: Robert and William “Skippy”; father and mother-in-law: Albert and Margaret Hageman; brothers-in-law: James Hoffman, Allen Turner, and Dean Giese; sister-in-law, Beatrice Arbach; and son-in-law, Martin Haverty.

Luce Funeral Home of Gettysburg has been entrusted with Delores arrangements.

  1. Dear Family – we were so sad to hear the news of Dee’s passing. The tribute is beautiful and a wonderful way to remember her. Our hearts go out to all of you during this difficult time as we keep you in our thoughts and prayers.

  2. Dear Gillis: Our condolences to all of your family members. Watching the video, Dee has left such a legacy in the beautiful quilts she has made & given to all of her loved ones. She was only happy when she could ‘do’ for others. Her family meant everything to her. She will be deeply missed by everyone. God bless you and please know she is resting lovingly in the arms of our Lord.
