Denis Marlin Walker was born November 18, 1940 in Houghton, SD to Charles and Gertrude (Allbee) Walker. The family moved to Centralia, Washington for a few years, where Charlie did construction work. After which they returned to the Walker Family Ranch where Denis lived the rest of his life.
Denis attended Stevenson School in Enterprise Township. As a young man he worked for several large ranches, where he learned as much about cattle as he could from men like Ted Jennings, J.K. Mitchell and Jack Adams. He put all he learned into producing some of the best cattle in the country. Denis’ life revolved around his cattle and for him it wasn’t work.
His only hobby was hunting with this best friend, his brother Gale.
Left to cherish Denis’ life is his siblings: Gale (Jan) of Parkston, Diane Brist of Aberdeen, Carol Walker (Jim Eldringhoff) of Wecota and Larry Frazier of Wright, WY; his nieces and nephews: Brian (Melissa) Walker and daughters, Carrie (Brooks) Goeden, Jason (Kaylene) Walker and sons, Gwen (Jon) Graefe and son, Shawn (Valerie) Brist and sons, David (Gwen) Walker and sons, Alan (Tonya) Walker and children, Pixanna Walker and son, and Kenny (Amy) Walker and son; his aunts: Shirley Ketterling of Bowdle, Doris (Elroy) Ketterling of Spearfish, Irene (Lawrence) Linderman of Bowdle and Lois Ryman of Redfield and one uncle: Edward (Carol) Allbee of Herried.
Denis was preceded in death by his parents; brother, Charles and infant brother Darby; and half siblings: Edward, Darryl, Charles, Richard, Willard, Duane, Allan, Dorothy and Delores.

We will miss Denis with all his great stories. He was a great person who was just fun to be around. His cows will miss him too! I think they are the only beef cows that got checked daily, year round, if not twice daily year round! He treated us as family, even our dog! We’ll miss you Denis!!!
So sorry to hear of the loss of Denis. He was always a kind and gentle man. I thoroughly enjoyed working with Denis and his animal interests.
