Deon Agnes Zens was born July 29, 1940 in Aberdeen, SD to Robert and Delores (Jankord) Zens. She attended St. Mary’s Sisters grade school in Zell, SD and graduated high school in Redfield, SD in 1958. After high school, Deon attended Presentation College in Aberdeen for two years.

While working at her uncle Emery Jankord’s café in Seneca, SD, Deon met Charles Senn. The two married during a blizzard on March 5, 1962.

Deon and Charles raised their eight children on a farm south of Seneca. The ten of them living in a tiny house quickly lead to the home being affectionately dubbed “The Crowded Cabin.”

One of Deon’s greatest passions in life was caring for her daughter, Cara. Despite Cara’s special needs, she lived at home with Deon for 41 years until her passing in February 2017.

Deon lived a full life and lived life to the fullest. Her boisterous laugh was contagious. She loved spending time with her kids, grandkids and great-grandkids along with enjoying extended family gatherings. When she wasn’t busy with family, Deon also enjoyed sewing, cooking, dancing, gardening and her beloved polka music.

Aside from her unwavering Catholic faith, nothing was more important to Deon than family. She believed in strong family values and instilled them in her children. Deon’s influence on her family has continued and will continue to be passed down to her grandchildren, great-grandchildren and beyond.

Those blessed to have shared in her life are her children: Carol (Rolland) Potter, Seneca, Joan (Richard) Hahn, Pierre, Charla Harford (Sylis Kariah), Redfield, Jim (Liz) Senn, Mitchell, Joe (Jodi) Senn, Seneca, Jerry (Heather) Senn, Nisland, and Cheri (Shane) Moke, Belle Fourche; sister, Lucy (Jerome) Harvey, Sturgis; brothers: Roger (Deann) Zens, Zell and Jim (Darlene) Zens, Faulkton, 26 grandkids and 8 great-grandkids.

Deon was reunited in heaven with her husband Charles (November 20, 2008), daughter Cara (February 1, 2017), father Robert, and mother Delores.

Luce Funeral Home of Faulkton has been entrusted with Deon’s arrangements.
