DeWayne Sivertsen, 93, of Ree Heights, died peacefully on July 11, 2014 at the Good Samaritan Center of Miller. Visitation will be Thursday, July 17 from 5:00-8:00 p.m. with an 8:00 p.m. prayer service all at First Presbyterian Church of Miller. Funeral services will be 11:00 a.m. on Friday, July 18 at the First Presbyterian Church in Miller. Burial will be at the Morningside Cemetery in Ree Heights.
DeWayne was born on August 9, 1920 in Hand County to Edwin and Jesse (Lott) Sivertsen. He was the oldest of five siblings and grew up on the family place in Como Township where he attended school.
DeWayne lived with his Uncle Fred and Aunt Minnie Sivertsen in the sheriff?s house while attending high school in Miller. After graduating from high school in 1939, he worked for neighboring farmers and the Triple A Farm Service.
DeWayne was drafted into the U.S. Army in the fall of 1942 and was in the 12th Armored Division. He was a proud veteran of World War II moving into Germany just after the storming of Normandy. DeWayne enjoyed visiting the World War II Memorial and Arlington National Cemetery in Washington, DC in 2007.
After returning home from the war in 1946, he returned to rural Hand County and worked for Vern King. He married the love of his life, Annie Ruth Lobban, on February 21, 1948. After they were married they moved to a ranch in southern Hand County. In 1954, they moved south of Ree Heights and took over the Lobban family farm. He and Ruth worked side by side for many years on the ranch. He loved raising cattle and horses, and spent many years buying newly weaned calves and selling them the next fall. In 2008, they moved into Ree Heights. Together for 66 loving years, they raised six children.
DeWayne was an active member of the Ree Heights American Legion up until his death. He served in many capacities within the Legion including Commander. He was a member of the Cedar Congregational Church and the First Presbyterian Church. In his younger years, he was a member of the local Grange. DeWayne had a love for baseball. He spent many years on the baseball field as a pitcher with many stories to tell. He was an avid Minnesota Twins fan and even in his last days you would hear him rooting ?Go Twins?. In his earlier days, DeWayne was a member of the Highmore Roundup Club where he enjoyed taking his kids to various Play Day Events. In Garner?s race car days he enjoyed helping work on the car and going to the races. He loved playing cards at card parties and at the neighbors. DeWayne loved to attend sporting or other events of his grandchildren. Up until the last 2 ½ months DeWayne didn?t let any grass grow beneath his feet. He and Ruth spent much time going for drives, visiting people, or going out to eat.
DeWayne was a devoted husband and father. He loved spending time and visiting with his family and friends.
He is survived by his wife, Ruth and six children; Judy (Galan) Wallman of Miller, Garner (Sally) Sivertsen of Ree Heights, Joan Sivertsen of Miller, Janice (Keith) Volek of Highmore, Robert Sivertsen of Olivet, and Joyce (Lynn) Swaney of Farmington, NM; 15 grandchildren; 18 great-grandchildren; one brother Marlow ?Eddie? of Minnesota; one sister, LaVonne Kusser of Highmore; sisters-in-law Mary Ann Sivertsen and Nellie Jager; brothers-in-law James (Irene) Lobban, Alex (Leona) Lobban; and a host of nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents Edwin and Jesse (Lott) Sivertsen, infant sister Shirley Ann Sivertsen, brothers Vernon Sivertsen, Wilmer Sivertsen and Leland Sivertsen.

We were saddened to hear of DeWayne’s passing.
DeWayne was not only a family friend to us, but a wonderful neighbor, Christian man, and a fine example of what a family man could and should be.
Jean and I were so pleased to have visited with DeWayne just a few month ago. We will always cherish the Sivertsen family. Rest in peace.
I’m pretty sure my dad met your dad at heaven’s gates and said….DeWayne……baseball game on…..pitch me one, I’ll be your catcher.
We will miss all the trips back and forth during the day that DeWayne made each and every day…he was always so pleasant and interesting to talk with.
