Memorial services was held at 11:00 A.M., Saturday, July 7, 2007 at the United Methodist Church in Gettysburg with Rev. Susan O'Connell officiating. Diana’s ashes will be spread on Oahe Lake by family and friends in the afternoon, a place Diana explored and loved to fish with her brother, Tick, in later years.
Diana Loitwood Webb, 65 of Gettysburg, SD, died in Sioux Falls, SD, on Nov. 1, 2006, from chronic health complications.
Diana Loitwood was born at Pierre, SD, on July 26, 1941, daughter of the late historians Howard and Kathryn Loitwood of Gettysburg, SD. Diana graduated from Gettysburg High School in 1959 and attended USD as an “Art Major.”
Diana married Bernie Webb of West Philadelphia, PA, on Dec. 27, 1960, at the Gettysburg Methodist Church. As a child and student Diana explored the whole southwest and South Dakota’s Missouri River bottomland with her late parents and brother Tick Loitwood, and then did the same thing again in the 1960’s with her husband Bernie. Always active in community affairs, Diana was selected as “South Dakota’s Outstanding Young Woman for 1971, the same year she was state president of the South Dakota Jaycettes.” Diana’s talent for making various types of historical exhibits was legend for years, first noted publicly in 1958, continuing for 40 years.
Diana is survived by husband Bernie Webb of Gettysburg, SD; daughter Melody Webb Hanson (Randy) of Glenham, SD, daughter Colleen Webb of Fargo, ND; grandsons Casey and Cody Hanson of Glenham, SD; granddaughter Nicole Hertel of West Fargo, ND; brother Tick Loitwood (Barb) of Gettysburg, SD; aunts Joann (Chuck) Strader of Gettysburg, SD, Shirley (Karl) Nagel of Gettysburg, SD, Dorothy Raasch of Waukesha, WI; and special lifetime best friend, Mary Lynn Collins of Gettysburg, SD.
