Dorothy A. Pathmann, 93, of Gettysburg passed away Thursday, May 22, 2014 at Avera Maryhouse in Pierre. 

Memorial Service was held at 9:00 a.m., Wednesday, May 28, 2014 at the United Methodist Church, Gettysburg with Pastor Jeff Adel officiating. Burial was at the N.D. Veteran Cemetery, Mandan, ND. Visitation began at 6:00 p.m., Tuesday, May 27, 2014 with a 7:00 p.m. prayer service at the church.

Dorothy Arlene Morlan was born November 18, 1920 to William Everett and Minnie Viola (Thielke) Morlan at Crookston, MN. After graduating from Crookston High School she went to work at the Ben Franklin Store, and then she worked at the Root Beer Barrell Drive-In for the summer. When the drive-in closed for the winter she worked at the Soda Fountain Shop next to the Grand Theatre.

Dorothy married Llewellyn Charles Pathmann on November 25, 1941 in Crookston, MN. World War II broke out December 7, 1942 so Llewellyn was inducted into the United States Army at Ft. Snelling, MN. Lew took his training for the Signal Corps in Milford, NE for three months. Next he went to Rolla, MO so Dorothy worked as an assistant in a dental office for three months. Later he had three months of school in Lexington, KY, and then went to basic training at Camp Kohler near Sacramento, CA. Dorothy lived in an apartment in Sacramento and worked in the ladies shoe store until Lew got an honorable discharge in September 1943.

They moved back to Carson, ND where Lew went into partnership with his father Charles William Pathmann and his grandfather Fred Pathmann at the Pathmann Lumber Company. In May 1960 they moved to Gettysburg where Dorothy worked at Miller’s Clothing Store for Charlie Miller and later L.M. Samuelson for several years. Next she worked at the Potter County Bank and later for Shirley Vail at Vail’s Drug Store. In 1967 she and her husband opened Montgomery Ward Catalog Agency in the Odd Fellows building and ran that for a few years. In 1970 she worked for Nelle Combellick in the County Auditor’s office for a year. In 1971 Dorothy worked for Leigh Hawkins in the Potter County Treasurer’s office until he retired. Then she worked with Nohra Schneider until she retired in 1980. Dorothy was elected to the treasurer’s office in January 1981 and retired in January 1985.

Dorothy was a member of the United Methodist Church, the American Legion Auxiliary in Carson, ND serving as president for four years. She later joined the Legion Auxiliary in Gettysburg and received her 50 years pin there. She was a member of the ReEcho Rebekah Lodge for a number of years and also a member of the VFW Auxiliary receiving a 15 year pin in 1995.

Dorothy is survived by her children: James Lew (Mary Ann) Pathmann of Crookston, MN, Patricia Ann Nauman (Dennis Stanley) of Pierre, and Charles Everett (Patty Jean) Pathmann of Winona, MN; her grandchildren: Kimberly Schweiss (Doug Johnson), Gettysburg, Alan (Saydara) Nauman, Grand Prairie, TX, Trevor Charles Pathmann, Minneapolis, MN and Jodi Marie Pathmann, Madison, WI; and Richard D. Howard, Kentfield, CA; her great grandchildren: Jenna Renee Schweiss, and Lindsey and Megan Nauman; nephews: Michael (Margaret) Otterberg, Ft. Peck, MT, Tom (Joan) Morlan, Terry (Lynn) Morlan and Douglas Morlan, all of Crookston, MN and one niece: Debbie (Scott) Ogaard.

She was preceded in death by her father, William Everett Morlan, July 6, 1958; her mother, Minnie V. Morlan, March 15, 2001; her husband, Llewellyn Charles Pathmann, April 26, 2002; brothers: Melvin R. Morlan who was killed in WWII, January 5, 1945, William H. Morlan, July 6, 1986 and an infant brother Curtis R. Morlan.
