Dorothy Zeller, 100, of Miller, passed away Monday, February 29, 2016 at the Good Samaritan Society in Miller.

Funeral Mass was held at 10:30 a.m., Monday, March 7, 2016 at St. Ann’s Catholic Church, Miller with Father Chester Murtha, celebrant. Burial followed at St. Ann’s Cemetery, Miller. Visitation began at 5:00 p.m. followed by a 6:30 p.m. rosary service and 7:00 p.m. scripture service, Sunday, March 6, 2016, all at St. Ann’s Catholic Church, Miller.

Dorothy (Schaefer) Zeller was born on the family farm 2 ½ miles east of Polo on February 17, 1916 to F.X. and Mary (Froning) Schaefer. She attended St. Liborious School in Polo and graduated from Miller High School in 1936. She worked at the Farmers Union Store and the Habicht’s Clothing Store in Miller. On September 30, 1941 she married Melvin Zeller at St. Ann’s Catholic Church in Miller.

Dorothy’s faith was a very important part of her life. She spent many years teaching Catechism and C.C.D. and felt very privileged to be a Eucharistic Minister. She was also very involved in Boy Scouts and Girl Scouts being a leader in each for many years. She enjoyed sewing, quilting, gardening and playing cards. Dorothy was the last surviving member of her Bridge Club, which originated in the 1930’s. She could always be seen outside pulling weeds and reaping the benefits of her large garden.

Grateful to have shared in her life are her children: Jim (Jane) Zeller of Dayton, Ohio, Carol (Craig) Connor of Rapid City, Tom (Sharon) Zeller of Rapid City, Joe (Gail) Zeller of Miller, a special nephew, Vern (Ruth) Schaefer of Ames, Iowa, one sister, Julie Bowar of Faulkton; 13 grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren; a special family friend, Brian Seeman; and several nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents, F.X. and Mary Schaefer; her husband, Melvin; five brothers: Lawrence, Leonard, Benny, Ed, and Carl; one sister, Teresa Zeller; two sisters-in-law: Margaret Schaefer and Dorothy Schaefer; two brothers-in-law: Bob Bowar and Charles Zeller; one granddaughter, Ashley Nicole Zeller.
