Dorothy Kay Kopecky was born in rural Ontario Township of Hand County on April 29, 1919, the only daughter of John and Edith (Weisner) Kopecky. During her childhood years, Dorothy attended Ontario school.
On February 28, 1940, she married the neighborhood boy, Clarence Hall at the Presbyterian Church in Miller, SD. Together the newlyweds made their home and farmed on the Hall homestead until 1973 when their son Larry and his wife, Carolyn, took over the farming and ranching operation. From 1975 to 1992, Dorothy and Clarence were managers of the Coral Lanes bowling alley until they fully retired.
Like many women of her generation, Dorothy was a wonderful cook. She loved new recipes and sharing her Bohemian dishes. Dorothy was active with the neighborhood ladies club, extension work and 4-H work. She was a member of the Orient Methodist Church and enjoyed being a part of the Miller UMW.
Dorothy loved animals, especially puppies. Many found comfort in her arms and on her lap. Dorothy enjoyed playing cards and having coffee with friends. She especially cherished the times spent with her grandchildren and great grandchildren.
In December 2007, after Clarence’s death, Dorothy moved into the Courtyard Villa Assisted Living Center in Miller, SD. There, she enjoyed bingo, card games and coffee with her neighbors and friends. Dorothy moved to a new home at the Prairie Good Samaritan Society in November 2012. Here, she also enjoyed her family of friends and the many activities and entertainment.
Blessed to have shared in Dorothy’s life and cherish her memories are her son and daughter-in-law, Larry and Carolyn Hall of Orient; granddaughter, Amy (David) Voelker and four great grandchildren, Logan, Carson, Hailey, and Emery Voelker of Colman; and grandson, Dan Hall (fiancée, Ann Wudel) of Madison.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Clarence Hall in 2007 and her parents.
