Dorothy Marshall, 91, of Miller, passed away Tuesday, August 6, 2013 at the Good Samaritan Society of Miller.

Funeral service were held at 10:30 a.m., Saturday, August 10, 2013 at the St. Lawrence Community Church with Pastor Scot Tutt officiating. Burial followed in the St. Lawrence Cemetery.  Visitation was held at 5:00 to 7:00 p.m., Friday, August 9, 2013 with a 7:00 p.m. prayer service, all at Reck Funeral Home, Miller.

Dorothy Marshall was born November 11, 1921 to James and Maude (Key) Carter. She grew up and attended school in St. Lawrence.  Dorothy married Francis Marshall on May 8, 1946 in Pierre, SD.  She then attended Wessington Springs College and became a teacher; teaching elementary school in Hand County for 41 years.

During retirement, Dorothy and Francis enjoyed traveling.  They belonged to a camper club and also spent several winters in Mesa, AZ.  Dorothy enjoyed crocheting and other crafts and took winning entries to the State Fair for many years.

Grateful to have shared in her life are two daughters, Sharon (Bob) Lunne of Dallas, SD and Karon (Merle) Stevens of Wessington Springs, SD; three grandchildren: John (Leslie) Stevens of Wessington Springs, SD, Shari (Jeff) Hannahs of Sioux Falls, SD and Duane Lunne of Dallas, SD; four great-grandchildren: Wyatt Stevens, Rylie Stevens, Brock Stevens, and Harley Dawn Hannahs; siblings: Leone Liebers of Ladysmith, WI, Lois Harris of Jonesville, NC, Jim Carter of Venice, FL,  Rachel Rediger of Mesa, AZ, Roger (Aloa) Carter of McLeansville, NC, Dixie (Al) Young, Woodway, WA and  Dale (Suzanne) Carter of Montrose, CO; special nephew and wife, Lyle and Pam Williams, St. Lawrence; special nieces, Nancy and Carol Williams, St. Lawrence; brother-in-law and wife, Lyle and Evelyn Marshall  of Rapid City, and sister-in-law, Rosella Marshall, Salt Lake City ,UT

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Francis; and three sisters: Virginia Carter, Viola Webber, and Evelyn Fanning.

Reck Funeral Home of Miller has been entrusted with Dorothy’s arrangements.

  5. You are in our prayers. Mrs. Marshall was a favorite teacher of mine – she made 4th grade/St. Lawrence very memorable. And I always enjoyed seeing her pretty works at the state fair. Special lady.

  6. I remember her as a very nice lady. She taught me in the 2nd grade at Howell School, 1956-57.
