Dorothy Steiner, 83, of Vermillion and formerly of Frankfort, passed away Monday, November 25, 2019 at Ava's Hospice House in Sioux Falls. She was surrounded by her loving family and friends.

Dorothy was born April 5, 1936 to Maurice and Amanda (Walstad) Moriarty at the family home in Hiland Township, Hand County. Dorothy began her education at the rural Palmer School near her home before graduating from Wessington High School. She then moved to Pierre where she worked in the emergency room at the hospital. She later moved to Sioux Falls and attended beauty school. Upon graduation, she moved to Redfield where she met and married Jack Steiner. They eventually purchased a small farm near Frankfort where they lived and raised their children. Dorothy and her sister, Mildred, owned and operated the Redfield Beauty Shop for 42 years before retiring.
Dorothy’s greatest joy in life was spending time with her grandchildren. She thoroughly enjoyed all the activity and the chaos that they created. The attention of her great-grandson, Jack, gave her an immense amount of joy. Dorothy always loved visiting with family and friends around the dining room table. She also really enjoyed attending the Steiner family reunion to catch up with everyone.
Dorothy is survived by her son, John (Stephanie) of Middletown, DE; daughter, Amanda of Vermillion, SD; grandchildren: Colette (Colton) Taylor of Redfield; Eric Steiner, Mollie Steiner, Mikael Steiner, Zane Steiner, Cedric Garcia, and Santiago Garcia all of Vermillion; great-grandson, Jack Steiner of Vermillion; sisters: Helen Moriarty of St. Lawrence, Mildred Esser of Lincoln, NE, and Karen Haigh of Wessington; brothers: Donald Moriarty, Richard Moriarty, and Robert (Patricia) Moriarty, all of St. Lawrence; and many nieces, nephews and other family members.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Maurice and Amanda; her husband, Jack; and her sister, Ruth.
