Dorothy Catherine Boehmer was born February 23, 1921 in Hughes County to August and Elizabeth (Schmidt) Boehmer. After graduating from high school in Harrold, SD she went on to Notre Dame Junior College in Mitchell, SD where she earned a teaching certificate. During her teaching career, she taught at Grey Goose, Canning, and south of Harrold. She then met John Zilverberg and they married February 17, 1945 in Highmore during military leave while John was in the Marines. Military service took them to Klamath Falls, Oregon where she continued to teach 6th grade. The couple was transferred to San Francisco until the war ended October, 1945.
After the war, John and Dorothy moved to their ranch north of Holabird where they started a family of four children. Dorothy was a faithful, loving partner and wife for 63 years. She loved her children, grandchildren and great grandchildren, and would do anything for them. She also loved birds, flowers, traveling and being an active volunteer. Her volunteer activities included holding state office with SD Extension Homemakers and serving on the state and county boards. She held local offices in Cattlewomen, Catholic Daughters, Altar Society, Historical Society and belonged to the Retired Teachers Organization. In 1976 she represented Hyde County as Mother of the Year in the state competition. In 2003 she was honored to be inducted into the South Dakota 4-H Hall of Fame for 20 years of service as a 4-H leader. In 1989 John and Dorothy retired from the ranch and moved to Highmore.
Dorothy is survived by her husband, John Zilverberg, two daughters and two sons, Marcia (Mike) Wiedebush of Aberdeen, Donald (Peg) Zilverberg of Holabird, Karen (Ray) Geditz of Ipswich, and Gary (April) Zilverberg of Holabird, 12 grandchildren, 3 great grandchildren, and a sister, Marcella Auch.
She was preceded in death by her parents, twin brothers who died at birth, a brother Vincent Bollweg, and a sister Evelyn Reding.
Luze Funeral Home of Highmore has been entrusted with Dorothy's arrangements.

I’m sorry to hear about your loss. She was a beautiful person. The video of her and your family was wonderful.
My sincere sympathy to the family of Dorothy.
I met Dorothy through the Catholic Daughters when I visited the court. I found her to be such a lovely person and her faith so important to her.
May she rest in peace.
John and family,
I will miss my cattlewomen friend. I have my spiderplant that she sent for a door prize just a couple of years ago. I will think of her when I care for it. Dorothy was a very willing helper to our state organization. Always an encouraging smile. I was in Warner to the grandchildrens program when I read of her passing
Cherish your memories
Ruth Farnsworth
We cherish every memory in which Dorothy had played such a wonderful part. She was as sweet and as caring a great Aunt as I could ever wish for. I am so greatful for even the small part she was able to play in Allie & George’s lives. We will miss her and think of her often.

Just read of the loss of your mother & grandmother. If she was even 1/2 as pleasant at Donald & Peg she must have been awesome.
It will make for a difficult Christmas. She will be with Mark’s dad (who past in September) and they will be with the Lord and at the most wonderful place to celebrate.
God’s blessing to your family.
Dear Marcy,
So sorry to hear of your mother’s passing. I’m so glad you and Jason moved years ago to be by your parents and family.
I’m sure your heart is heavy and you are missing her. Just remember she is missing you also.
We send our condolences and love to you, Jason and your father.
Michael, Naeme and family.
I knew Dorothy when growing up in Harrold and did visit with her at the Harrold celebration this summer. I now live in Hoven but work in Gettysburg, so the dual location. My sympathy and prayers are with all of you. God Bless you as she spends Christmas with Jesus. Pat
Dear John & Family,
we heard of your loss and are mourning with you. We remember Dorothy, so full of sympathy from visits and correspondence. We send condoleances and love to you all. Family Calsbeek, Akkrum.
Dear John and family,
We have just heard of Dorothy’s passing and wanted to extend our deepest sympathy. Our family knew of Dorothy from our mother, Magdalena (Marty) Schmidt Kyte.
Marty spoke of Dorothy often remembering the time they grew up together in Harold. Although we never spent much time with Dorothy we felt very close to her as our mother would speak of her often with many found memories. Others do not share such wonderful memories unless that person was someone special. From what we knew of Dorothy she must have been a special person.
