Duane Holt
September 11, 1932 ~ May 17, 2009
Funeral services were held at 2:00 p.m., Thursday, May 21, 2009 at the United Methodist Church in Cresbard with Pastor Julie Nygaard and Pastor Carl Hedman officiating. Burial followed in the Cresbard Cemetery with military honors. Visitation was held from 3:00 to 7:00 p.m., Wednesday, May 20, 2009 at the Luce Funeral Home in Faulkton with a 7:00 p.m. prayer service.
Duane Hansen Holt was born September 11, 1932 to Joie and Evelyn (Hansen) Holt at the Nelson Maternity Home in Cresbard. He attended the rural Melius Country School in Faulk County. At the young age of 14 he started farming with his father.
On September 27, 1953 Duane married Shirley Bisbee at the Cresbard Methodist Church. Shortly after, he began his military duties with the U.S. Army, stationed in El Paso, TX and Limestone, ME thru 1955.
In 1960 with his young family he moved to Cresbard and began a career in the wiring and plumbing business retiring at the end of 2006. Duane loved the electrical business. Many work so they may live, he lived so he could work. Duane was committed to his business and took great pride training and working with his sons and grandsons. They owned and operated the Cresbard Hotel from 1973-1999.
Duane’s hobbies included threshing bee’s, going to parades with his 1939 Ford truck and camping and hunting trips to the Black Hills.
He was a member of Cresbard United Methodist Church for over 50 years. He also belonged to the SD Electrical Contractors, SD Electrical Council and the American Legion. He served on the Cresbard Cemetery Board for 45 years.
Duane is survived by his wife, Shirley of Cresbard; sons: Kevin (Pam) of Cresbard and Kurt (Lori) of Wecota; stepmother, Viola Holt of Faulkton; brothers: Darwin (Wanda) Holt of Cresbard and LaRoy (Glenda) Lorenz of Hot Springs; sisters: Darlys (Dennis) Holm of Cresbard and Carol (Butch) Curns of Surprise, AZ; grandchildren: Weston (Jess) Holt of Baltic, Sheldon (Brandi) Holt of Faulkton, Sheena (Matt) Hill of Rapid City, Kyle Holt and fiancé’ Jessica Lachnit of Sioux Falls, Gene (Lora) Holt of Wecota and Nick Holt of Wecota; and great-grandchildren: Gavin, Carson and Sadey Holt of Baltic and Jaxon and Brentley DuaRae Holt of Faulkton.
He was preceded in death by his parents, brother Derald and sister Muriel Joan.
Luce Funeral Home of Faulkton has been entrusted with Duane's arrangements.

It was always a pleasure to visit with Duane as he had many life experiences he would share during a conversation. He will truely be missed.
