Dustin Scott, 45, of Eagle Butte, passed away Wednesday, September 11, 2019 at Avera McKennan Hospital, Sioux Falls surrounded by his loved ones.

Funeral services were held at 10:00 a.m. MDT, Monday, September 23, 2019 at the CRST Bingo Hall, Eagle Butte. Burial followed at the Congregational Cemetery, LaPlant. Wake services was held at 7:00 p.m., Sunday, September 22, 2019 at the Bingo Hall, Eagle Butte, with a procession from the 4-mile at 4:00 p.m.

Dustin Charles “Dusty” Dog Eagle Scott was born July 14, 1974 in Eagle Butte, SD to Leatrice Scott and Dennis “Chuck” Dog Eagle. He attended Swiftbird Day School, Promise Day School, Cheyenne Eagle Butte, and Flandreau Indian School.

In October 1992, he was blessed with a daughter, Karissa Rose. Three years later in February 1995, he welcomed another daughter, Trelonnie Leigh. His first-born son, Kelyn Charles, was born in March 1999.

Dusty met Tennille Ducheneaux in 2003 and they were married in April 2008. He took her daughters, Wambli Wacinhin and Remi as his own. In February 2013, his namesake, Dustin Charles Duane, Jr. was born. They made their home in Eagle Butte.

He was a talented artist who drew many beautiful drawings for his friends, family, and organizations. He enjoyed being with family and friends, golfing, playing chess, walking around and going to the river. He had a great sense of humor and was always willing to lend a helping hand.

In 1998, Dusty along with Marty Stadel, Carl Dupree, and Tony Pearman won the SD State Dart Class C Championship. Again in 2000 along with Milt Jeffries, Donnie Red Thunder, Conroy Clown and Carl Dupree, they won the Class A Championship. Dusty also rode on the Great Sioux Nation Victory Ride in 2003 and 2004.

Dusty lived in Sisseton, Swiftbird, Enemy Swim, White Horse, LaPlant, Spearfish, Aberdeen, and Eagle Butte. He worked for the Cheyenne River Sioux Tribe, was a seasonal BIA Cheyenne River Agency Firefighter, and also worked for First Dakota Enterprises, Safeway, McDonald’s, Flint Co., Ludemann Fencing, and Lakota Thrifty Mart. He was a jack of all trades who enjoyed making and fixing things. He was a perfectionist when it came to his work, it had to be precise.

Dusty leaves behind his loving wife, Tennille; four daughters: Karissa Dog Eagle, Yankton, Trelonnie Dog Eagle, Sisseton, Wambli Ducheneaux, Spearfish and Remi Ducheneaux, Eagle Butte; two sons: Kelyn Ward and Dustin Scott Jr., Eagle Butte; his mother, Leatrice Penny, Mobridge; brothers: Gilreth Dog Eagle, Mobridge, Blaine Dog Eagle, Ft. Thompson, James (Jannon) Dog Eagle, Pierre, and Efton (Shanon Morgan) Dog Eagle and Cody (Carmen O’Neal) Dog Eagle, Eagle Butte; sisters: Libby (Jesse) Fulls, Dodge City, KS, Tina (Syd) Garreaux and Jo (Jasper) Veaux, Eagle Butte, Shellie (Mike) Peterson, Parade, Rhonda Creswell, Pierre, Doreen (LeRay Skinner) Dog Eagle, Bismarck, ND, Kracy Dog Eagle, Bear Creek, and Samantha (Arthur McLane) Dog Eagle, Eagle Butte; goddaughter, Destiny Miner, Mobridge; grandchildren: Kenton and Kendra Cook, Frankie and Kiran Wanna and one on the way; aunties: Iris Scott, Jennie LeBeau, Rita Shaving, Eleanor Miner, Nancy West, Marlene Bowker and Andrea Robideau; and numerous other aunties, uncles, cousins, nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his father, Dennis “Chuck” Dog Eagle; maternal grandparents: Martina Phillips and Elmer Scott; paternal grandparents: Dennis and Rosalie Dog Eagle; and one sister, Rosa Cook.

Luce Funeral Chapel of Eagle Butte has been entrusted with Dustin’s arrangements.
