Earline Spicer, 100, of Gettysburg, passed away, Saturday, January 19, 2013 at Avera Oahe Manor, Gettysburg.
Funeral services were held at 2:00 p.m., Friday, January 25, 2013 at the United Methodist Church, Gettysburg with Pastor Jeff Adel officiating. Burial followed in the Gettysburg Cemetery. Visitation was held from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m., Thursday, January 24, 2013 at Luce Funeral Home, Gettysburg with a 7:00 p.m. prayer service.
Ethel Earline Scott was born May 4, 1912 in Sheraton, IA to Perry and Clara (Law) Scott. The family moved to Potter County in 1917. They homesteaded close to Lake Hurley in the northwestern part of the county. She attended country school and Gettysburg High School, graduating in 1929.
On March 19, 1932 Earline was united in marriage to Allen “Spike” Spicer in Selby, SD. Together they farmed and raised their family, which included their four children, Bob, LaRene, Mary Lou and Kay. Throughout her life she has also worked in a number of places. She managed the Hiway Café at the five mile corner, worked for Dr. Urbanyi, the Potter County Extension Office, the City Office and the Dakota Sunset Museum. Earline retired in 2009. For many years she was also wrote the Senior Citizens News for the Potter County News.
Earline has been an active member in the community and the United Methodist Church. She was also a member of the Medicine Rock Senior Center, Gettysburg Country Club, Order of the Eastern Star, the Homemakers Social Club and two local bridge clubs.
She is survived by her children: Robert Spicer, LaRene (Lyle) Henrickson and Mary Lou (Richard) Maguire all of Rapid City and Kay (Kent) Joachim of Gettysburg; 10 grandchildren; 18 great grandchildren; and11 great-great grandchildren.
Earline was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Allen; and sister, Martha Mann.
Luce Funeral Home of Gettysburg has been entrusted with Earline’s arrangements.

Earline was a wonderful warm person and lived a long life. My heart goes out to her family since this is a great loss for their family and this community too. God bless her memory.
