Edgar Ernest Bentz was born October 17, 1929, in Grant County, Elgin, ND, to his parents John and Lenora (Theurer) Bentz. He was the second oldest child in the family. He attended country school through the 6th grade. He then joined his father in farming and continued there until he went to work for the road construction company in ND. It was during this time that he married Janice Springer. To this union four children were born. He continued in road construction until he moved to Gettysburg, SD, in 1962. He did various jobs in the Gettysburg area until joining the Potter County Highway Department. He worked there for twenty years.

He and June Millar Roseland were married on December 31, 1983, in Elmhurst, IL. They made their home on the ranch north of Highmore until his death. He loved his cows. They were his passion and he was very proud of their lineage. He loved to dance and was never found sitting on the sidelines when he and June attended a dance. Edgar was a faithful member of Alcoholics Anonymous for 41 years.

Edgar is survived by his loving family; his wife, June; children: Wesley (Vicky) Bentz of Tulsa, OK; Wilma Dewberry of Beaverton, OR; Wanda (Brad) Johnson of Sheridan, WY; and Warren Bentz of Concord, CA; step-children: Cheryl (Peter) Blennert of St. Charles, IL; Leo Roseland of Highmore, SD; Janelle (Craig) Roseland-Newman of Glen Ellyn, IL; 10 grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; one step-grandson; brothers: Ervin (Eleanor) Bentz, Milbert (Claudia) Bentz, Marvin (Audrey) Bentz; sisters: Gertie Ottmar, Ardella (Vernon Vietz), Erma (Arlan Bachmann), Leona Hauck, Dorothy and Emanuel Will, Elaine Roth and friend Mike Haslid; and a host of nephews and nieces.

He was greeted in heaven by his parents; step-grandson, Scott Roseland; brother, Reiny Bentz, and brothers-in-law: Ervin Ottmar, Marvin Roth, and Marvin Hauck.

Our special thanks to James Premus and Larry Kerns for their quick assistance at the ranch, to the staff at Hyde County Ambulance Service, Faulk County Hospital, Avera McKennon Hospital and Avera Doughtery Hospice House. The exceptional care given to Edgar will never be forgotten.
