Edna Bingham
September 13, 1911 ~ February 25, 2012
Edna B. Bingham, 100, of Miller, passed away Saturday, February 25, 2012 at Highmore Health, Highmore, South Dakota.
Edna was cremated and will be buried at G.A.R. Cemetery in Miller, SD at a later date.
Edna Bertha Emma Siegling was born September 13, 1911 in Burdette Twp., Hand County, South Dakota to John A. & Bertha A. (Mast) Siegling; the oldest of five children. She attended grade school in Burdette, and went to Redfield High School, in Spink County. While in high school, she worked at the Baldwin Hospital. She then returned home to help on the family farm.
On March 27, 1936, she married "The Watkin's Man", Ross Q. Bingham, son of George B. and Mary E. (Kenyon) Bingham. They made their home on his father's homestead farm in Burdette Twp., less than three miles south of Edna's parents. They farmed there until March 1, 1946, when they moved to Vayland, where Ross took the position of Postmaster.
In August 1949, they moved into their new home in St. Lawrence which Ross had built. They both loved to be in the midst of a remodeling or building project, either for themselves or others, as Ross was an accomplished carpenter and woodworker, as well as being able to do all the other related "jobs". Edna was happiest with a paint brush or roller in her hand, or putting up wallpaper, and being the overall "Inspector General", as Ross called her. Edna was also an expert seamstress, sewing for her family since she was young girl. She was the family "barber and hairdresser", as well as for all her friends. She loved to bake, with pies her specialty. She felt dessert was the most important part of a meal, and was known to suggest to company that perhaps the dessert should be eaten first, "just in case we're too full after dinner". She also loved to crochet, making stacks of beautiful afghans, among other items. For many years, she was substitute postal clerk at the St. Lawrence post office.
She entered Prairie Center in Miller November 2002, and later moved to Highmore Health in March 2006.
Edna was preceded in death by her parents, infant son, Ronald, in 1937, and husband, Ross, April 6, 1992, brothers Milo (Eunice) and their daughter, Gail, Kenneth (Arlene), Darrell, and sister, Myra (Ronald & Maurice), son-in-law, Gus, and all of her husband's family, except for three nieces.
She is survived by her daughter, Carolyn and grandson, Justin, and one sister-in-law, Delores, and ten nieces and nephews.
Reck Funeral Home of Miller has been entrusted with Edna’s arrangements.

Carolyn and family;
Thinking of you at this difficult time. It’s hard to loose your parents. Take Care.
Carolyn, my sympathy to you. Doe
Well, she is at peace now
Thank You for at least acknowledging her life……
Aunt Edna was my Dad’s (Darrell Siegling) oldest sister. She was such a great lady with a wonderful sense of humor. When she worked at the post office we’d get a letter and at the top, in the return address section, she’d print “EBEB at the PO” us kids thought that was so funny! And we still talk about it today. It is the end of an era – all the Siegling brothers and sisters are gone but certainly will not be forgotten.
Dear family, I am sorry for your loss. May each of you find comfort in knowing that God is “near to those that are broken at heart ;and those who are crushed in spirit he saves.” (Psalms 34;18)
So sorry to hear of your loss of your mother. She was a very sweet lady. Our thoughts and prayers are with you. Sincerely, Joe & Karen Bahr
I am sorry to read about Edna passing. When visiting the Nursing Home i enjoyed her. Now we know why she would want to eat her dessert first.
May God hold you in hands at this time.

Wonderful memories of a very kind, caring and talented Aunt, my Dad’s (Ken) sister, will remain in our hearts forever. She, my Dad and all her family are now visiting together over her raisen nut bars and a cup of coffee.
