Edwin “Louie” Castaway, 24, of Eagle Butte entered the spirit world Thursday, August 19, 2010 at the Rapid City Regional Hospital.

Funeral services were held at 11:00 a.m, MDT, Wednesday, August 25, 2010 at the Old Agency Building in Eagle Butte with Fr. Les Campbell and Iva Traversie officiating. Burial followed at the St. Paul’s Episcopal Cemetery in LaPlant. A procession formed at the four-mile junction east of Eagle Butte, at 4:00 p.m., Tuesday, August 24, 2010 followed by a 7:00 p.m. wake services at the Old Agency Building.

Louie was born March 11, 1986 to Norma Lafferty and Edward Castaway Jr. in Eagle Butte, SD. Throughout his life he lived in Eagle Butte, Oglala, Wood, Pierre, Rapid City and Sioux Falls making and meeting friends wherever he went.

Louie enjoyed riding BMX bikes, doing tricks at the local skate park; he also enjoyed horses, always riding when able and participating in the Suicide Ride every year at Iron Lightning, SD before he lost his eyesight.

He worked at various businesses to support himself and help his family. He loved his family and thought a lot of the little ones.

Louie will always be missed and forever remembered for his humor, kind heart, bravery and most of all, his smile.

He is survived by his mother: Norma Lafferty of Eagle Butte; grandmother, Evelyn Castaway of Sioux Falls; brothers: Joe (Carlita) Lafferty and family of Eagle Butte, Troy Lafferty and Marsha Lone Elk and family of Rapid City, Steven Lafferty of Rapid City, Alec (Rosalee) Castaway and nephews Kierian Alec and Kyren James of Rapid City, Matthew and McKenzie Muddlin of Rapid City and Rodgerick Shook of Sioux Falls; one sister: Terri Wind and John Quick Bear Sr.; niece, Johnessa; nephews: Jayden and Jackson Taken Alive and special cousin, Jon Taken Alive and family.

He was preceded in death by his father, Edward Castaway Jr.; paternal grandfather, Edward Castaway Sr.; maternal grandfather, Henry Lafferty Sr. and maternal grandmother Florence Iron Lightning Lafferty.

Louie will be greatly missed by all whom he thought a lot of.

Luce Funeral Chapel of Eagle Butte has been entrusted with Louie's arrangements.
