Eric Vaughn Kills Crow was born September 13, 1989 at I.H.S. Hospital at Eagle Butte, SD to Dewey Marrowbone Sr. and Denise Kills Crow. He attended Cherry Creek Head Start, Middle School in Dupree, SD, Takini School 8th – 12th grades, and graduated in 2008 from Takini High School. Following high school, Eric attended Oglala Lakota College for two years. While attending school, his favorite sports included cross country, basketball, and softball. Eric was encouraging to all of the players.
Eric played in softball tournaments, made friends everywhere he went, and always brought an award home. His Indian Name, “Tapa Inhepya Wicasa” means man throws the ball.
In 2008, during his senior year, the Takini Sky Hawks won the district 16B championship and were regional 8B runners up in basketball. Eric loved this day, with lots of joy!
Eric worked during the summers, mostly jobs out on ranches. He was very thankful for Clifford Demery always picking him up. He looked up to Demery, and he loved to work with him doing any sort of job.
Eric was a strong man, believed in his heart, loved his culture, and always had smiles, laughter, hugs, and a handshake. He was a respectful and kind person with lots of love to share.
Eric got sick in March of 2018. He was in and out of the hospital, and each time he was given a certain amount of time that he would have before passing. Through prayers, love, hope, and belief in himself, Eric continued to fight his sickness.
Eric was on the transplant list in Sioux Falls Avera but became too sick. He accepted his sickness, accepted Jesus in his life, and had a plan during his last two weeks of life. Eric shared a song, “Ride Out Your Storm”.
