Ernestine Jeanette Azure, 72, of Ft. Thompson, entered the spirit world on Monday, July 28, 2008 at her home in Ft. Thompson.
Funeral services were 2:30 p.m., Thursday, July 31, 2008 at the Christ Episcopal Church in Ft. Thompson with Everett Harrison officiating. Burial was in the All Saints Cemetery at Ft. Thompson under the direction of Luze Funeral Home of Highmore. An all night wake service began at 2:00 p.m. Wednesday, July 30 with a 7:00 p.m. wake service at the church.
Ernestine Jeanette Middletent was born July 22, 1936 at Fort Thompson, South Dakota to Ernest and Adeline (Red Day) Middletent.
She was united in marriage to Levi H. Azure on May 25, 1956 at Gann Valley, South Dakota.
Ernestine worked for many years as a cook and dorm attendant at Pierre Indian Learning Center and Crow Creek Tribal Schools. She enjoyed being surrounded by family and friends. She also enjoyed being a loving wife, mother, grandmother and great grandmother.
She is survived by her four sons: Bruce of Stephan, Darrell and Daniel of Ft. Thompson and Leonard of Huron; two daughters: Charlene and Camilla of Ft. Thompson; numerous grandchildren and great grandchildren; adopted daughters: Karen Voice, Lorie Seeking Land and Margie and Loylee Cook; her siblings: Caroline, Irene, Donald, Stanford “Jack”, Winfred “Soby”, David and Gary Middletent; adopted sister: Pearl Kirkie and many nieces, nephews and cousins.
Ernestine was preceded in death by her husband Levi Azure; her parents: Adeline & Ernest Middletent; daughter: Laurel Azure; two sisters; three brothers; her grandparents and one grandson, Zane Azure.
Casketbearers were Darrell Azure, Daniel Azure, Leonard Azure, Loren Azure, Rogan Azure, Lee Patrick Azure, Sean Smith and Shane Smith.
Honorary Casketbearers were Karen Voice, Arlene Voice, Valerie Medicine Cedar, Dawn McGhee, Pearl Kirkie, Brenda Kirkie, Alita McBride, Velma Fleury and Margie Cook.
Luze Funeral Home of Highmore has been entrusted with Ernestine's arrangements.
