Memorial service was held at 10:30 a.m., Thursday, January 24, 2013 at Our Savior Lutheran Church, Highmore with Pastor David Peterson officiating. Burial followed at the Highmore Cemetery.  Visitation was held from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m., Wednesday, January 23, 2013 with a 7:00 p.m. rosary at Koehn Bros. Funeral Home in Parkston.

Eunice C. Jacobson Anderson was born December 16, 1927 on the family farm in Wadena Township Minnesota to Martin and Gracie (Wanless) Jacobson. She attended Wibel Ross rural school until the 3rd grade. The family then moved to Whitewood, South Dakota. The school closed after her junior year of high school so the family moved to Deadwood, South Dakota where she graduated from High School.

She was raised in the Lutheran Faith which she attended faithfully until moving to Parkston where she joined the Catholic Church. Eunice worked as a telephone operator in Deadwood, prior to moving to Highmore. While working as a secretary for the extension service she met Harold D. Anderson of Highmore. They were married on February 8, 1948 at the Grace Lutheran Church in Deadwood. They raised four sons, Scott, Burton, Michael and Justin (Dusty) whom she loved very much.

During her married years she enjoyed ranch life and especially meeting all the wonderful people who came to look at the cattle and attend the annual bull sales. Her special interests included the Ruth Circle and Country Side Garden Club where she made many lifelong friendships. She also enjoyed countless hours volunteering at the Highmore nursing home and spent many years in the Stockgrowers Auxiliary then known as the Cowbelles. There she served all offices including State President. After moving to the Black Hills in 1991, she enjoyed volunteering teaching English as a Second Language and managing the T.C.A.C.C Clothing Store in Lead. While there she was awarded the Good Samaritan Award in 1997. After moving to Parkston in 2002, her activities included volunteering at MOM’s group, Sacred Heart and enjoyed following the Minnesota Twins and the Parkston Trojans. Eunice’s first love was her family. She enjoyed cooking and time spent with them. Eunice loved being with and watching her grandkids and great grandkids whether it was playing cards, watching them participate in sports, riding horse, or in the showing.

Eunice was happiest in the kitchen and especially enjoyed when family and friends gathered to enjoy her lutefisk and lefsa dinners and bona cata parties.

  8. Heather (Van Den Berg) Kreutz says:

Eunice was a wonderful lady that I admired. My fondest memory of Eunice was when she took me to a mother-daughter banquet (which made Susan quite jealous and is probably why the memory sticks with me). She raised terrific sons and was always happy to share a story about them and their families. God Bless.

  9. Everyone here at Highmore Health extend their deepest sympathy to the passing of a great woman and friend to us. She was a wondeful volunteer and always had the residents best interest in her heart.

  10. My deepest condolences to the Anderson family. May God be with you all.

  11. Our thoughts and prayers are with all of you. Lots of fond memories of your family. She will be missed but remember all the fun times. Sincere Sympathy. Mike and Mary

  12. What a wonderful lady. I am glad I got to know and work with her in the past.
