Freda Geist

A Memorial Service were held at 1:00 p.m., Saturday, July 11, 2009 at Luce Funeral Home, Faulkton with Pastor Paul Smith officiating. Burial followed in the Faulkton Cemetery.

She was born as Friederike K. Geist in Odessa, Russia on April 30, 1911 to Daniel and Katarina (Goetz) Geist. At the age of 5 months, her parents moved to the U.S. because of the upcoming war. They departed on a ship, the Neckar, from Bremen, Germany and docked at Baltimore, Maryland.

The family, including two brothers and one sister, moved to a farm in Faulkton. She graduated from Faulkton High School and lived in Faulkton for 90 years. She worked as a waitress and dishwasher before beginning her career with Western Telephone Company. After working for them for 41 years, she decided to retire when computers were introduced. She then sold her home in South Dakota to her boss from the telephone company and moved to Merrill Gardens in Loveland seven years ago to be closer to her niece, Dorothy.

Some of her hobbies included playing bingo, reading and crocheting. She made many doilies for the home¹s craft fair.

Survivors include her nephew, Roger Geist (Jerri Lee) of Spearfish; niece, Dorothy Conner (Terry) of Loveland; many great nieces and nephews, great-great nieces and nephews and great-great-great-nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents, two brothers, Chris and Daniel and a sister Mary Wherry.
