Gary Bates, Jr., 61, of Miller, passed away Wednesday, July 1, 2026, at the Huron Regional Medical Center in Huron.
Memorial service will be at 2:00 p.m., Friday, July 10, 2026, at the First United Methodist Church, Miller, with Rev. Allison Galbreath officiating. Visitation will begin one hour prior to the service.
Gary was born on February 15, 1965, in Miller, South Dakota, to Gary, Sr. and Barb (Hanks) Bates. He attended school in Miller and graduated from Miller High School in 1983. Throughout his life, Gary worked in a variety of occupations, including construction, Coral Lanes, and a local hardware store.
In his free time, Gary enjoyed golfing, bowling, fishing, and hunting pheasants and grouse. He will be remembered for his love of the outdoors and the many friendships he made throughout his life.
Gary is survived by his daughter, Megan (Jason) Weber; grandchildren: Kingston, Kiya, and Sophia; mom, Barb; sister, Bridgett (Charles) Augspurger and their five children: Austin (Amanda), Andrew, Jack (Brooke), Nelson (Molly), and Grant; brother, Jamie (Autumn) and their three children: Elise, Cruz, and Max; and numerous aunts, uncles, and cousins.
He was preceded in death by his father, Gary, Sr., on April 5, 2026.
Reck Funeral Home of Miller has been entrusted with Gary’s arrangements.
