George Earl Mann, 102, of Gettysburg, passed away, Wednesday, August 12, 2009 at the Oahe Haven in Gettysburg.

Private family services were held with burial in the Gettysburg Cemetery.

George Mann was born July 6, 1907 in Eales, SD to William and Clara (Peterson) Mann. He attended Fayette Township Country School until the 8th grade and then ranched with his family.

On May 15, 1933 George married Martha (Scott) Mann in Faulkton.

George began ranching by renting land from others prior to purchasing his own, which he operated until age 67. George and Martha lived on the ranch until he was age 90. At that time they moved into Gettysburg. He spent the last year living in the Oahe Haven. One of his favorite past times was playing cards.

George is survived by his wife, Martha Mann of Gettysburg; daughter, Marlene (William) Otey of Dell City, OK; son, Jay (Beverly) Mann of Luverne, MN; grandchildren: Deborah (Brian) Bonebright of Sparta, MO, Stephen Mann of Tallahassee, FL, David Mann of Charlotte, NC, George (Ricki) Otey of Peidmont, OK, William “Billy” Otey of Oklahoma City, OK; great grandchildren: Nathan Bonebright and Allen Bonebright of Sparta, MO, Bryce Mann of Charlotte, NC, Christopher (Anjellica) Otey of Kingfisher, OK, and Joe Otey of Piedmont, OK; and two great-great grandchildren, Taygen and Alexi Otey of Kingfisher, OK.

He is preceded in death by his parents; infant son, Jerald; one sister, Blanche Beringer; and three brothers: Edward, Alvin, and Ralph Mann.

Luce Funeral Home of Gettysburg has been entrusted with George’s arrangements.
