    Dear Haiwick family.
It saddens me that I cannot be there to give you my condolences in person. Please know that you all are in my thoughts and prayers. Mrs. Haiwick was a special lady. Her guidance and encouragement led me to have wonderful experiences during high school and beyond. I will miss her bright smile and friendly words. With deepest sympathy, Stephanie (one of the Busse boys, right Gary?) 🙂

  17. Denise I am so sorry to hear about your Mom. You are in my thoughts and prayers. Take care!

  18. Gary & Family,

Thank you for your patience through the years as you shared your wife, mother, sister, and friend with all.
Mrs. Haiwick was a natural teacher, but it was obvious that she was special.
This wonder woman taught me more than cutting straight edges for poster boards (although she did make me re-cut them EVERY TIME! 🙂 ), she taught me more than how to follow a recipe (even though I still use her home-made pie crust recipe!), she taught me more than how to develop professionalism….
she inspired me to use what life has given you, pack what you have, and never, ever forget where you came from.
Please know that each and everyone of you are in my thoughts and prayers….the whole community is celebrating her life together, Gloria truly is a hero.

    Love & Peace,
    Shanda

  19. Tom and Linda Bartholomew says:

Gary and family–Please accept our sincerest sympathies in your loss. We have so many good memories from your years in the Faulkton area and some of the times we spent together. Remember those late nights, Gary, when we would spend the evenings discussing about everything? Those were the years when we were so young and could take those late nights! It was also fun that time we ran into you at the Pierre airport when we were heading for Denver for Thanksgiving and think you were headed east to see family. We will always treasure your friendship and we send our love and prayers. We are out of the country right now and will be unable to attend the services, but you all will be in our thoughts. God bless you all.

  28. Gloria was a woman who embodied all the greatest qualities that we most value. She was kind, generous, accepting, forgiving, industrious, encouraging, gracious, wise, and most of all, loving. We are all blessed for having the opportunity to know her.

  29. I am presently in Scottsdale and cannot attend the funeral, but it was consoling to view the video of her life. She was remarkable. God Bless all of you. Sharon Baloun

  30. Keeping all of you in prayer.
Thanks for sharing your mom with so many of us. She truly impacted thousands of lives.

  31. Les and I would like to express our deepest condolences to all the Haiwicks. Betsy and Vava still tell the many stories of the years they were priveleged to camp with the family at the South Dakota State Fair. Helping show sheep, the carnival rides and enjoying the meals Gloria would have ready for them. They also loved the “LB Grandmas” planning grandchildren visits to coincide in the summers. Summer at the Haiwick ranch is another fond memory. As everyone grew older and we moved to Texas, it was great to have Denise live in Temple for a short time and host some family as well. We treasure the memories. Gloria was a truly unique woman, multi-talented, a loving wife, parent, grandparent, renowned teacher and a faithful christian. She is now free of pain and in a much better place. To God be the glory.
Our prayers are with all of you in this time of sorrow.
    Love,
    Carol and Les

  32. My sympathy at the time of your loss. I was a new FACS teacher (back when it was Home Economics) and new to SD and teaching on a reservation when I first met Gloria at a state meeting. She was a tremendous encouragement for me to stick with education and I do love it. 25+ yrs later, I am still at it, though I can seldom attend meetings. Gloria and I lost touch, but her passing brings back good memories.

  33. Rest in Peace Gloria. You will be greatly missed but never forgotten.

  34. She was a great teacher. Her family is in my thoughts and prayers. She will be missed!

  35. Jeanette Eichacker-McVay says:

Sincere sympathy. Read the obituary about all of Gloria’s achievements. You probably will remember John and sheep shows we attended. We lived at Salem then.

  36. To Gloria’s family: I am a fellow FACS teacher and I looked up to your Mom as the ideal role model for what I would like to be as an advisor and teacher.
    We will miss her.

  37. To Paula and family,
May you all be comforted by the wonderful memories of a loving mother.
    Sincerely,
    Angela Stephan

  38. To the family of Gloria:
I was the home ec. teacher
at Miller for 25 yrs. retiring in
1993. Gloria and I traveled to
many meetings within the U.S. and
within S.D. with our students and
    FCCLA (FHA) contestants, officers
and chaperones. Gloria and I had
time to have many, many conversations togther — many
    laughs, many trials, many nights
watching out for our students, and
    many honors and accomplishments
with and for our students. I had
no idea that Gloria was ill — I
knew that she had retired — I feel badly that I did not have the
    opportunity to re-connect with her
during her illness. Gloria and I
worked so well together as comrades supporting each other and
    supporting the students of each
other. Gloria was a wonderful role model for her students.
    Love and Hugs. Jo Marso

  39. We want to extend our sympathy to your family. We know that Gloria will be greatly missed. She was an inspiration to all of us.

  40. What a special lady. What a legacy she leaves behind.

  41. Dear Gary and Family,
once again the weather is not making it possible for us to attend Gloria’s funeral this morning. Our thoughts and prayers will be with all of you today and in the weeks and months to come
Gloria was such a wonderful person and I will treasure her forever in my heart.
    Love Liz and Dave

  42. Gary and Family,

I just wanted to let you know I was thinking of you. Even though I was only is Highmore a short time, Gary and Gloria were one of the first people I met before I actually moved to Highmore and they welcomed me with open arms and made me feel welcomed to the community. She always had a smile when she and Gary would stop by the office. Gloria will be missed by so many, but I could tell how many lives she touched and she will not be forgotten.

  43. Gary and Family,
Just wanted to send my deepest sympathy. Gloria was a wonderful person, a great teacher and fun to be around. She will be greatly missed. My thoughs and prayers are with you.
    Susan Schoenfelder Bennett
    (Highmore Music Teacher 1986-1992)

  44. Losing a loved one can be devastating. Which is why I wanted to express my deepest sympathy and concern for you and also share with you the wonderful hope for our dead loved ones. As you grieve Gloria’s loss, please reflect on the hope in question, which comes from, Jehovah God. (Psalms 36:9). By means of the Bible, He allows us to understand how He’ll eliminate death for good one day and bring our dead loved ones back to life. This is evident in Scriptures like (Isaiah 25: 8), (John 5: 28), (1 Corinthians 15:26), (Revelation 21:3 and 4), which can comfort you in this time of sorrow. God’s promises are guaranteed because He cannot lie. Moreover John 11 verses 11-14, 39, 43, and 44 attests that Jesus, who God appoints to bring the dead back to life, can do it since he did it when he resurrected Lazarus when he was on earth. As you await Gloria’s resurrection, please heed Jesus’ counsel in John 17 verse 3 and take steps to gain accurate knowledge of God and Jesus by carefully studying the Bible with the Witnesses. In John 5 verse 39, Jesus explains that such study is imperative if one wishes to have everlasting life one day here on earth, which will be become a paradise where you can be re-united with Gloria and enjoy a world free of violence, war, sickness, old age etc… (Ps 37: 9-11 and 29), (Psalms 46: 8 and 9), (Isaiah 33:24), (Job: 33:25).

  45. Sorry for your great loss. She is gone but not forgoten. This little Lady touched alot of lives. She had a heart of gold. God be with you all Take care.LaNett genzler

  46. You all have my deepest sympathy at the loss of Gloria. I had planned to attend the funeral today, but the weather here made it impossible. I have always had the greatest respect for Gloria.I worked with her on many projects through the years and went on many FHA trips. She was a teacher that cared about each and every student and always treated them with respect. I will never forget her.

  47. Gary and family – Our heartfelt sympathy to all of you. May the love of your family and friends and your faith bring you comfort. We have such good memories of Gloria and the time we spent together at the “ranch” at Norbeck. God Bless You!!! Vern and Elaine Snow

  48. Gloria will truly be missed. She was a very amazing woman. She really knew how to make a person smile even if they were having a bad day. We will really miss her but love that she is an angel above watching over us.
    All our love.

  49. Gary and family,
I was unable to attend the services due to work situations this week, but I was with you all in thought and prayer. May comfort and peace surround you all, and thanks be to God for her earthly sufferings to now be gone. She will be truly missed.

  50. May your special memories comfort you at this difficult time.

  51. Christian & Sheila Kieso says:

Our thoughts & prayers go out to the Haiwick Family. Gloria will be dearly missed by all.

  52. What an impact this great lady has made. Her tireless approach will forever be an inspiration to me. I have empathized with you during your journey as I know the struggles of losing a parent to cancer. Gloria was a lucky lady to have such a supportive core family. I know from conversations at FCCLA events just how proud she was of each of you. I trust and pray that God will keep you close as you learn to move forward. God Bless!

  53. Suzy (Knippling)Ferguson says:

My sympathy to your family, Gloria was my home-ec teacher during high school.. I graduated in 1979. She was a very dear lady and loved by all.

  54. Gary and family,
I have been gone for 3 weeks and just catching up on the papers and what a shock to read Gloria had died. I feel so bad that I had lost touch with you folks and didn’t even know she was sick, and here in SF. I so enjoyed the times we had in SDSC, State Fairs, weddings, etc. Gloria was one special lady; classy, calm, energetic and always with a smile. Gary, you and the children must have some special memories of her – God blessed you with her. May he bring you peace. My love and prayers are with you all.
    Carol

  55. Gary and Kids: I was so sad to hear of Gloria’s passing. As you may or may not know she was my neighbor and babysitter growing up.We lived on farms about 2 miles apart and our families were lifelong friends. I remember when Gloria first brought Gary home. He was the first real cowboy any of us had ever meet. The things she accomplished in life are not surprising to me as she was always a go getter and giving person. My heart goes out to all of you. All I know is Gods house is in order because he has Helen, my mother Stella and Gloria with him and things have never been so clean and organized in heaven. God bless you all…Kevin Krog

  56. My Parents are Gayle and Jim Koster. I would visit my Grandma and Grandpa, Fay and Leonard Koster in Lake Benton and would spend a lot of time at Bill and Helen’s for dessert and cards. I played with Denise, Craig, and Paula during some of those summer visits.

I just wanted to give my deepest sympathies. I am so sorry to hear about Gloria. May God be with each of you during this time and give you strength.
    Karrie (Koster) Sory
