Harold D. Anderson, 82, of Parkston and formerly of Highmore, passed away, Thursday, March 13, 2008 at the Avera Bormann Manor in Parkston.

A celebration of life services were held at 11:00a.m., Monday, March 17, 2008 at Our Savior Lutheran Church in Highmore with Pastor David Peterson officiating. Burial was in the Highmore Cemetery under the direction of Luze Funeral Home of Highmore.

Harold D. Anderson was born November 15, 1925 to O.P. and Mary (Gunderson) Anderson at the Sammons Maternity Home in Highmore, SD. He attended high school as a freshman and then attended SDSU Aggie School, graduating in 1945. He was united in marriage to Eunice Jacobson on February 8, 1948 in Deadwood, SD. To this union four sons were born, Scott, Burton, Michael and Dusty. He ranched north of Highmore for many years during which time he was named the SD Eminent Farmer. Harold was a member of the Hyde County School Board and church board. While on the extension board, he and others worked tirelessly on the development of the 4-H Foundation and the National and SD Hereford Association. He was also a member and director of the SD Stockgrowers Association. Harold was a firm believer in performance and production record keeping as a lifelong member of SD Production Records. Harold was named Outstanding Seedstock Producer of the Year and won the Beef Industry Federation Award. His love for children was evident every day of his life.

He is survived by his wife, Eunice of Parkston; 3 sons: Burton Anderson and wife, Laura of Highmore; Michael Anderson of Cave Creek, AZ and Dusty Anderson and wife, Cindy of Parkston; a daughter-in-law, Linda Anderson of Sturgis, SD; 12 grandchildren: LaCosta (Gregory) Jackson; Ashley and Jesse Anderson; JD (Sylvia) Anderson; Crystal Anderson; Darrah (Kristi) Anderson; Nathan, Bryce & Terra Anderson; and Shae, Staci and Cole Anderson; 6 great-grandchildren: Haylee, Tyrel, Adam, August & Wyatt and Clayson Anderson; a sister, Mavis Dorsey and husband, Bill of Redfield, SD; and numerous cousins, inlaws, family and friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents, a son, Scott Anderson, and a granddaughter, Shantel Anderson.

In lieu of flowers, the family directs memorials to the South Dakota 4-H Foundation, SDSU, Box 2207E, Brookings, SD 57007-2097.

Luze Funeral Home of Highmore was entrusted with his arrangements.
