Harriet was born March 25, 1920 at Aberdeen, South Dakota to Walter J. and Jeannette (Timberlake) Allen. After completing high school in Aberdeen, she attended South Dakota State University, graduating in 1942 with a degree in Sociology. Harriet was united in marriage to Wendell W. Harriet was a homemaker, as the family moved from Huron to Minnesota to Miller to Pierre, and finally to Tea. She was active in both the First Presbyterian Church of Miller and the Oahe Presbyterian Church of Pierre. Harriet did book-keeping for the family business in Miller, was a member of PEO while in Pierre, and was an avid sports enthusiast all her life. Her love of music, art, history and English was passed to her children and her grandson while she was instrumental in working with her son-in-law on speech therapy starting in 1979. Harriet especially loved all the time and activities she shared with her grandson through the years.

She is survived by her children; Gregory Andrews and Barbara (Joel) Paulson; grandchildren, Dr. Drew (Dr. Kristine) Paulson; great grandchildren: Bruce, Axel, and Brix Paulson; brother, William T. (Jane) Allen; and numerous nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her husband; and sisters: Barbara (Robert) Wegner and Joan (Tim) Dunn.

Memories Timeline

Guestbook

  1. I’m so sorry to learn of Harriet’s passing. She was a lovely woman – just the sweetest Christian soul. I have such fond memories of her and Wendell at Oahe Presbyterian Church here in Pierre. You are all in my thoughts and prayers for your loss.

  2. My deepest sympathy. I’ll never forget when Harriet told me what a wonderful life she had enjoyed, with little sadness and tears. She said she was very fortunate. It reminded me to be more thankful for my own good life. She and Wendell were a wonderful couple, and we miss them both.
