Henry “Hank” Gene Bucholz was born November 8, 1967, in Pierre, South Dakota, to Larry Bucholz and Dawn Gayton. Throughout his childhood, Hank was blessed to be raised and cared for by Pauline Linscheight, John and Sandy Bremer, and Bud and Frances Jetty, all of whom played an important role in his life.
Hank graduated from Highmore High School in 1986, where he was active in FFA, basketball, cross country, track, and football. He continued his education at Mitchell Vo-Tech, graduating in 1988 with a degree in electrical construction. He later earned his journeyman electrician certification and built a career that took him to numerous states. Hank enjoyed the opportunities his work provided to meet new people and form lasting friendships wherever he went.
While living in Mitchell, Hank married Shelly Shawd in 1995. Together, they welcomed their daughter, Rachel, in 1997. Outside of work, Hank enjoyed playing softball, pool, and darts and especially treasured the friendships he made along the way. Following health challenges, he returned to the Highmore area.
Hank will be especially missed by his best friend and sidekick, Bruce, with whom he shared much of his life. Those who knew Hank will remember his sense of humor, warm smile, kind heart, and willingness to lend a helping hand. He had a way of connecting with people and leaves behind many friendships and memories that will be treasured.
Grateful for having shared in his life are his daughter, Rachel (Ryan) Hepper; grandson, Gavin Hepper; siblings: Larry Gayton, Bruce Bucholz, Evelyn (Mark) Wieseler, Ron (Tammy) Jetty, Mike (Laura) Jetty, and Pandy (Richard) Rezac; and numerous extended family members and friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Larry Bucholz and Dawn Gayton; and those who helped raise and care for him, Pauline Lingscheight, John and Sandy Bremer, and Bud and Frances Jetty.
Hank’s memory will live on through the family and friends who knew him, laughed with him, and were fortunate enough to call him a friend.
