Howard Clark, 83, of Pierre, formerly of Gettysburg, passed away on Saturday, May 9, 2015 at the Golden Living Center, Pierre.
Funeral services were held at 10:30 a.m., Thursday, May 14, 2015 at the Sacred Heart Catholic Church, Gettysburg with Father Jerry Kopel officiating. Burial followed in the Sacred Heart Catholic Cemetery, Gettysburg. Visitation was held from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m., Wednesday, May 13, 2015, with a 7:00 p.m. prayer service, all at the church.
Howard Clark was born on December 19, 1931 in rural Sully County to Daniel and Jennie (DuBois) Clark. He graduated from Gettysburg High School in 1949 and went on to attend the Dunwood Institute in Minneapolis, MN for machinist schooling.
On September 4, 1956, Howard married Janice Bloodgood. Together they had seven sons and were married for 40 years. Howard and Janice raised their family in rural Sully County. Howard spent his life farming and ranching, and he was also a carpenter. In 2010, Howard moved into the Golden Living Center in Pierre.
Howard loved to go camping; he especially loved camping with the company of his grandchildren. He mostly camped in the Black Hills or Sisseton, but he was happy to take his camper anywhere. Howard also enjoyed bird watching, bird feeding, and trips to rodeos or the Black Hills Stock Show. He was a member of the Catholic Foresters as well as a lifetime member of coffee groups at both the Medicine Rock and the Fireside.
Howard’s life will be cherished by his seven sons: James (Jolene), Michael (Bonnie), Steven (Betty), Dennis (Laura), Tom (Monette), Rick (Dawn), and Dale (Sandy); his brother, Jerald Clark; his sister-in-law, Mrs. Robert (Dorothy) Clark; 13 grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Howard was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Janice; his brother, Robert Clark; his sister-in-law, Mrs. Jerald (Joey) Clark; and Margie Clark.
In lieu of flowers or gifts, the family asks that memorials be made to the Make A Wish Foundation or a charitable organization of your choice.
