Inez M. Taken Alive-Best, 41, of Cherry Creek, passed away Friday, January 30, 2015 at the I.H.S. Hospital in Eagle Butte.
Funeral services will be 1:00 p.m. MDT, Saturday, February 7, 2015 at the Cherry Creek Community Center, Cherry Creek, SD with Mother Margaret Watson officiating. Burial will follow at the Episcopal Cemetery, Cherry Creek. Wake services will be 7:00 p.m. MDT, Friday, February 6, 2015 at the Cherry Creek Community Center, Cherry Creek, SD with a procession from the hill east of Cherry Creek at 4:00 p.m.
Inez Marie Taken Alive-Best was born April 12, 1973 in Eagle Butte, SD to Mary Ann Little Shield and Peter Taken Alive. Inez attended school in Cherry Creek, Red Scaffold, Eagle Butte, McLaughlin, and Mitchell—where she obtained her GED.
She moved back to Cherry Creek in 1991 and made her home there. In 1991 her first son, Shane Rae Taken Alive, was born. She later married Marc A. Best, Sr. and to this marriage four children were born: Corbin, Amber, Marc Jr., and Krista Best.
Inez lived in Cherry Creek until 2001 when she moved to La Plant with her family. Then shortly after, in 2002, she moved to Pierre, SD and worked as a housekeeper at the Super 8, Days Inn, the Ramkota, Governors Inn, and Kings Inn. Inez loved to work because it meant spending time with all of her friends.
Inez’s life will be cherished by her children: Shane of Eagle Butte, Amber and Corbin of Pierre, Mark Jr. of Sioux Falls, and Krista of Oklahoma; her four grandchildren: RaShane Lucian Taken Alive of Eagle Butte, Nilynn Lorraine Lovejoy/Taken Alive of Idaho, Benji Mickeal Taken Alive of Deadwood, and Ashten Allen Person of Pierre; one sister, Toni Taken Alive of Cherry Creek; one brother, Theo Taken Alive of Sioux Falls; eight uncles; three aunts; and many nieces, nephews and cousins.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Mary Ann Little Shield and Peter Taken Alive; her husband, Mark Best, Sr.; her brothers: Shawn and Freddy Taken Alive; her sister, Mary Lou Taken Alive; and her grandparents, Theophile and Mertyle Little Shield.
Luce Funeral Chapel of Eagle Butte has been entrusted with Inez’s arrangements.
