Irene Combellick, 97, of Gettysburg, passed away Wednesday, April 12, 2017 at the Avera Gettysburg Hospital.
Funeral services were held at 10:30 a.m., Monday, April 17, 2017 at Luce Funeral Home, Gettysburg, with Pastor Jeff Adel presiding. Burial followed in the Java East Cemetery.
Irene Wolf was born May 18, 1919 on the family farm, north of Java, to Gottlieb and Caroline (Harer) Wolf. She attended school in Java.
Irene helped on the family farm until marrying Chris Kolasch. They had one son, Rueben. In 1949, Irene was united in marriage to Felix Kormendy. They made their home south of Java; where she helped with the farming and raised their son, Erwin. When Felix’s health started to decline, they moved to Bowdle. Felix passed away in 1977, and Irene remained there until 1979 at which time she moved to Gettysburg. In 1980, she married Wilbur Combellick and together they made their home in Akaska. Wilbur passed away in 1988, and Irene moved back to Gettysburg to be near her son.
Irene was a member of the Medicine Rock Senior Center. She enjoyed crocheting, playing cards, and collecting buttons, dolls and angels.
Irene’s life will be cherished by her son, Erwin (Janet) Kormendy of Gettysburg; her grandchildren: David (Sally) Kormendy of Rapid City and Timothy (Michaele) Kormendy of Sturgis; step grandchildren: Brandy (Brad) Cole of Gettysburg and Joe (Jessica) Hall of Vermillion; great grandchildren: Zarian and Tanner Kormendy; and step great grandchildren: Kali and Kori Hansen, and Jeffrey Hall.
She was preceded in death by her parents; two husbands; one son, Ruben Kolasch; and three siblings: William and Edwin Wolf, and Esther Quandahl.
Luce Funeral Home of Gettysburg has been entrusted with Irene’s arrangements.
