Ivan Sargeant

Ivan Sargeant, 71, of Stephan, made his journey to the spirit world on Sunday, February 7, 2016 at Sanford USD Medical Center in Sioux Falls.

Funeral services were held at 10:00 a.m., Monday, February 15, 2016 at St. Joseph's Catholic Church in Fort Thompson. Burial followed at the Sargeant Family Cemetery, near Stephan. Two-night wake services were held at 7:00 p.m., Saturday, February 13th and Sunday, February 14th at St. Joseph's Catholic Church in Fort Thompson.

Ivan was born on August 23, 1944 in Ft. Thompson., SD to Evelyn Pansy (McBride) Dunsmore and Andrew Ivan Sargeant.

Ivan was a caring, loving and giving person. He was full of life and had a big heart, like his grandma (Lucy Sargeant). She taught him the true value of life. To always; love, care and respect one another. Help each other in any which way. He loved everybody and everything.

Ivan loved being outside fixing on cars and on the house and planting trees, until his health got him down. During his time, he enjoyed playing music especially Elvis. He was a big Elvis fan. He loved playing guitar, loved to dance and laugh. He loved telling jokes, spending time with his grandchildren and family. He kept busy and making the best of his time that God gave him. We’re going to miss his smile and presence around us. Now he is our guardian angel.

Ivan is survived by his children: Clarissa Sargeant, Chamberlain, SD, Lucy Sargeant, Lower Brule, SD, Ivan Sargeant, JR., Stephan, SD, Brian Sargeant, Macy, NE, Charlene Iron Star, Watertown, SD, Jackie Sargeant (Miller), Macy, NE, Susan Roberts, Joseph Nareerelli, Council Bluffs, IA, Author Zampese, Texas, Grandchildren: Paul, Stanley, Joseph, Evelyn, Alysha, Ashley, Austin, Brittany, Darice, Vanna, Damon, Jayson, Jayden, Ryan, Martese, Melissa, Colby, Whitney; 6 Great-Grandchildren; brothers: Theodore and Iris Sargeant, Kermit Sargeant of Sioux Falls, SD, Robert and Mona Dunsmore, Eagle Butte, SD, George Lamont, Rapid City, SD, Lester (Dale) Thompson, Ft. Thompson, SD; sister: April and Darrell Pohawpatchoko, Lawton, Ok, and many nephews and nieces, aunts, uncles, cousins, and relatives.

He was welcomed home by his wife: Mary Lee (Adams) Sargeant; 2 daughters: Melissa Sargeant and Trisha Adams; brother: Merle Sargeant; father: Andrew Sargeant; mother: Evelyn Pansy (McBride) Dunsmore; grandparents: Moses and Bessie McBridel; Steven and Lucy Sargeant; and many more relatives.
