Janice Rae was born on June 3, 1944, at St. John’s Hospital in Huron, South Dakota, to Metsel and Viola Faye (Dague) Zerfoss. She grew up on a farm in Whiteside Township and attended Whiteside School through the eighth grade. She later attended and graduated from Wolsey High School.

Janice loved to dance and met her future husband, Larry, at a dance in Wessington. They were united in marriage on June 9, 1962, at Wolsey Presbyterian Church. To this union were born their pride and joy—their son, Roger, and daughters, Tamara and Angela.

Faith was an important part of Janice’s life. Two important events occurred in her faith life. As a young girl, she accepted Jesus Christ as her Lord and Savior while attending a missionary Bible school at Whiteside School. At the age of 17, she and her father, Metsel, were baptized together at Wolsey Presbyterian Church.

Janice was a devoted homemaker who took great pride in raising her family. She also assisted her husband with bookkeeping for his business, which began in 1966, and later worked as a janitor for American Bank & Trust for 22½ years.

In her free time, Janice enjoyed tending to her flower garden, crafting, quilting, and decorating her home. Above all, she cherished spending time with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren, whom she loved to spoil.

She is survived by her husband, Larry; son, Roger (Jill) Arbogast; daughters, Tammy (John) Buszko and Angi (Jay Haase) Arbogast; grandchildren: Caitie (Levi) Fawcett, Austin (Tori) Arbogast, Karsen Arbogast, Emily (Bert Nash) Heezen, Naomi Buszko, and Niah Buszko; great grandchildren: Ashton, Madison, Talan, Tabor, Kora, Berkley, Emerson, Hunter, Zoey, and Jake; brother, Neil (Jackie) Zerfoss; sister, Lynette Hopkins; and sister-in-law, Janelle Zerfoss; along with a host of nieces and nephews.

Greeting her at Heaven’s gates are her parents; brothers: Roger, Jerold, and David; grandson, Dustin Heezen; son-in-law, Brian Heezen; brothers-in-law, Michael Hopkins and Jerry Lehnherr; and sisters-in-law, Derla Lehnherr and Joyce Zerfoss.

Reck Funeral Home of Miller has been entrusted with Janice’s arrangements.
