Jennifer Big Eagle, 47, of Big Bend, passed away Thursday, April 30, 2026, at the Flandreau Santee Sioux Tribal Care Center.
Funeral service will be 11:00 a.m., Monday, May 4, 2026, at St. Catherineโs Church Hall in Big Bend. Burial will follow at Howe Family Cemetery in Big Bend. A two night wake will be held at 7:00 p.m. on Saturday, May 2, and Sunday, May 3, at St. Catherineโs Church Hall in Big Bend. A procession from Luze Funeral Home will leave at 4:00 p.m., Saturday, May 2, 2026.
Jennifer Marie Big Eagle was born on February 19, 1979, in Pierre, SD, to Lyman โBradโ Big Eagle and Naomi Chapman.ย She was the baby of Brad and Naomi until two younger siblings, Lila and Brad, came along, bringing their family to twelve, ten children, two parents.
Jennifer attended Head Start in Big Bend, SD; Elementary Kindergarten through 6th grade in Harrold, SD; and completed 7th through 12th grade at Crow Creek Tribal Schools, class of 1997.
During the summer of 97โ, she stayed with Laura Rojas to help her with babysitting, also with Shannon Lafferty and her family, before moving home.ย Jennifer was strong, independent, loving, kind, and nurturing, always willing to help those who needed it.ย She loved spending time with friends & family, especially attending rodeos, powwows, and athletic events her children participated in.
She will be greatly missed by her three children: Hunter, Rylee, and Travis; brothers: Alvin Chapman, James Big Eagle, Dale Red Water, Lonnie Big Eagle, and Brad Big Eagle; sisters: Mary Jo Red Water, Joanne St. John, Lila Red Tomahawk-Kirke, and Cheyenne Red Water; many nieces and nephews; and lots of grandkids.
Preceded in death by father, Lyman โBradโ Big Eagle; mother: Naomi Chapman; brothers: Kevin Chapman and Robert Red Water; sister: Teresa Big Eagle; grandma, Nelda Lambie; grandparents: Lyman and Arlene Big Eagle; aunts and uncles too numerous to mention.
