Jim Peck, 71, of St. Lawrence, died Friday, May 6 at the Avera Hand County Memorial Hospital Funeral service will be 10:30 a.m., Wednesday, May 11 at the St. Lawrence Community Church. Visitation will be Tuesday, May 10 from 5:00 - 7:00 p.m. with a 7:00 p.m. prayer service all at the Rembold Funeral Home in St. Lawrence. Interment will be at St. Ann Catholic Cemetery.

James Eugene Peck was born June 10, 1939 to Raymond and Theresa (Manning) Peck at Miller, SD. He grew up on a farm and attended country school south of Ree Heights, SD. On June 17, 1961 he was united in marriage to Shirley Maile in Miller, SD. In his younger years he participated in many rodeos. He served in the United States Army and was stationed at Fort Sill, Oklahoma. After he was married he worked for area farmers and ranchers, Sexauer Feed Company and Hand County Implement retiring in 2000 due to ill health. For many years Jim enjoyed tending his vegetable gardens. He was devoted to his dog Tito and they enjoyed driving around together. Jim also helped with the Honor Guard for the VFW and American Legion. He served on the St. Lawrence Fire Department for 20 years and was involved with the construction of the current fire hall.

Jim is survived by his wife, Shirley Peck of St. Lawrence; two daughters, Sandra (Perry) Ankrum of Pierre, Judy (David) Lonbaken of Pierre; one son Randy (Roxann) Peck of St. Lawrence; grandchildren, Adam Ankrum, Colin Hargens, Paige and Conner Lonbaken; step-grandchildren, Courtney and Katrina Belton; two brothers, Joe (Shirley) Peck of Mesa, Arizona, Jack (Karen) Peck of Huron; one sister, Donna Koeck of Miller.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Raymond and Theresa Peck; parents-in-law, Mike and Frances (Maile) Winters; son, Michael Peck; granddaughter, Abbie Ankrum; sister-in-law, Jeanne Peck; brother-in-law, Gayle Koeck.
