Joseph Earl Machan was born April 12, 1921 to Kurt and Olive (Josephson) Machan on the family farm near Gettysburg where he lived until moving to Pierre. Joe spent some winters in Texas. He loved spending summers at Farm Island East of Pierre. Due to his health in later years, he lived in Evergreen Manor and some time in Golden Living Center both in Pierre.
He was a bachelor farmer and raised cattle for a number of years.
Joseph enjoyed country music, loved to fish and hunt, travel and attend auction sales. He also enjoyed doing carpentry work and together with his cousin Art Jacobson they built a kitchen addition onto the family home.
He is survived by his sister Edna Machan of Gettysburg and his beloved sheltie dog “Chipper”.
Preceding him in death are his parents, a sister Celia in 1981 and his brother Bob that died a week before Joe.
Joe will be greatly missed by his family and friends.
Luce Funeral Home of Gettysburg has been entrusted with Joseph’s arrangements.
