I visited with my kids yesterday and we shared some good stories about deer hunting and Christmas tree cutting out at the farm. Don’t remember if we ever got any deer or trees worth saving, but the memories certainly were.
Although our paths have not crossed as much as in the past, know that my thoughts are with you at this time.
Our hearts are saddened at the loss of such a vibrant, caring woman. We will miss her joyful smile and contagious laughter. Our prayers are with all of you.

You will miss Joyce always but as I know, time will allow you to adjust and live your life to the fullest. Remember the many good times and think and talk about her often. Please know you will be surrounded by family and friends to help you and share your sorrow. Joyce was a classmate of mine at Ree Heights High School.
Carmen and Family,
We were so sorry to hear about your mom. Know that you are all in our thoughts and prayers during this difficult time.

I remember Joyce from highschool (Ree Heights) as a vibrant, lover of life type of person. She had a great friendly personality. After school days I never saw her again, but will never forget her! Sounds like the rest of her life was similar to what I remember. I know you will miss her terribly. May God give you the comfort that only He can.
Stacy, Jason, Carmen, and family my thoughts and prayers are with you during this time of grieving. Joyce seemed to be a happy & loving person everytime I saw her. She always welcomed me with a hug and a smile like I was another one of her grandkids instead of just the best friend of one. She live a joyful life and will always be remembered. If you need anything at all, just let me know.
With all my Sympathy & Love,
Megan Wellner
I will truly miss her smile, her laughter and her sense of humor. I will always remember the summers I spent on the farm. They are some of the best memories I have. My prayers are with you all. Be strong as that is what she would want of all of you.
My love to all of you. Julie
Lane and family:
I was saddened to hear of your loss! Joyce, as you know, was a very special person. No matter when or where I would see her, she ALWAYS had her cheery smile; I could count on having a VERY good time in Joyce’s presence!
I’m holding your all in my hearts and uplifting you in prayer. Joyce will leave a big hole in all of our lives.
May God be with you all and give you His strength and comfort through this difficult time.
Hugs,
Rose
The strongest soul has left us. The good thing is she touched our hearts before she left. I just remember her smiling and laughing all the time. She was an amazing woman, and I am truly lucky to be related to her!
Your family is in our thoughts and prayers at this difficult time. May your memories of Joyce give you peace and joy in the times to come. God Bless you.
My deepest Sympathy to all of the family. Joyce was a great friend as we grew up in Ree Heights, what great times we had ice skating, sleding in the Ree Hills, the dances and the Saturday nite “crusing”.
I am so glad that I was urged to host the all-school reunion in June of 2008..and Joyce attended, I will treasure her great sense of humor, love of music and life and the DVD we did at the reunion…Lots of wonderful memories…
Love & Prayers…Vonnie
After a brief stay in Sandpoint, ID back in 1953-54 when Joyce’s family moved back to South Dakota, she lived with my family to finish the school year. I felt as if I had an “older sister” for a short time. She remained in close touch with my parents until they died and then continued to stay in touch with me over the years. Her 2008 Christmas letter was, as usual, full of news about Lane, her sons, her grandchildren, her brothers, all the relatives, crops, politics, etc. She was so very proud of her family. When she and Lane were in Sandpoint about 4 years ago for a Van Den Berg family reunion, we spent several hours with them. Then in May 2007 when Skip and I were traveling to Nebraska to see an aunt of mine, we stopped for an afternoon at their farm near Highmore. How we fell in love with S.D. and what a joy that visit was, including a ride to see “the herd”. Being a farm girl myself, I enjoyed it thoroughly. I always looked forward to Joyce’s annual letters! I was simply stunned today to receive the news that she had died 2 weeks ago. How she will be missed by everyone who had the privilege of knowing her! My love and sympathy to Joyce’s family. She was a very special lady!
