Katherine Dutt

Katherine Dutt, 98, of Tolstoy, passed away Thursday, October 1, 2015 at the Avera Oahe Manor, Gettysburg.
Funeral services were held at 11:00 a.m., Thursday, October 8, 2015 at the United Methodist Church, Gettysburg with Pastor Jeff Adel and Pastor Julie Nygaard presiding. Burial followed in the German Zion Cemetery, Tolstoy. A prayer service was held at 7:00 p.m., Wednesday, October 7, 2015 at Luce Funeral Home, Gettysburg with visitation one hour prior.
Katherine Dufloth was born May 26, 1917 in Onaka, SD to Gottlib and Carrie (Schneider) Dufloth at the family home which was located in the lumberyard. In later years, as a child, the family moved to Tolstoy.
Katherine completed school through the 8th grade. Following her schooling, she helped around the family farm, did painting and wall papering for many people, and worked in the telephone office.
In 1941 Katherine was united in marriage to John Buechler. To this union two children were born: Rolleen and Ramona. John passed away in 1967. Then in 1973, she married Edgar Dutt, gaining two step children, Elaine and Connie.
Katherine retired in the 1990’s but continued to live in the Tolstoy area until entering the Avera Oahe Manor in 2012. She was very active in her community with teaching Sunday school at the United Methodist Church, Tolstoy Christian’s Quilters and the United Methodist Women. She was crowned the Tolstoy’s Centennial Queen. Katherine enjoyed spending free time baking, gardening, sewing, visiting with friends, and playing softball in her younger years.
Those left to cherish Katherine’s life are her daughters: Rolleen (Jerry) Hauck of Gettysburg and Ramona (Bernel) Stankey of Bath; step daughters: Elaine (Vern) Snow of Tolstoy and Connie (Larry) Benke of Jamestown, ND; one grandchild, Ron (Kris) Hauck; six step grandchildren: Kevin Snow, Kari (Eric) Brenner, Kim (Paul) Bonen, Ryan Benke, Lori (Evan) Skattum, Heidi Benke ; two great grandchildren: Rylee and Haylee Hauck; two step great grandchildren: Allison and Bennet Brenner; and one sister, Grace Pettigrew of Rapid City.
She was preceded in death by her parents; both husbands; two brothers: Earl and Howard Dufloth; sister, Virgil Comstock and two grandchildren, Russell and Lisa Hauck.
Memorials are directed to the United Methodist Church Building Fund, Gettysburg or the United Methodist Church, Tolstoy.
Luce Funeral Home of Gettysburg has been entrusted with Katherine’s arrangements




I am so very sorry to hear about Katherine’s passing. She was such a sweetheart and a joy to care for in the manor. I’m really going to miss my daily hug from her! Sending hugs and prayers to your families!
Rolleen & Ramona, so sorry to here of your Moms passing. I remember her as a very friendly & happy go lucky lady. Talked with her a few minutes at Tolstoys celebration & she was so up beat. Stay strong & remember all the good times.

So sorry to hear about Katherine’s passing. Cherish the wonderful memories you have made with her. She was a wonderful friend to mom!!! I will always remember her as such a happy person and a smile always on her face and always had time to chat!! She will be missed by all and Heaven has gained a beautiful angel!!!!
