Katherine was born May 31, 1943 in Pittsburg, Pennsylvania to Francis and Katherine (Scheribas) Church.  Kathy graduated High School in 1962 and moved to Pierre, South Dakota to earn her LPN degree.  On August 6, 1966, she married Robert Freier.  In 1980, she returned to school and graduated with a Registered Nursing degree.

Nursing was Kathy’s passion.  She loved working and caring for the elderly which she did for many years.  After she retired, she worked at the grade school for five years.  She spent her Saturdays working at the thrift store, food pantry, and raising money for the cancer society.

In her spare time, she loved doing anything with water; from swimming, tubing, kayaking or just hanging with all her extra kids at Farm Island.  She and Robert loved camping and they would pull their camper over to Pierre as much as possible.  Kathy also enjoyed reading, coloring, scrapbooking, and photography.

Katherine will be lovely remembered by her husband of 50 years, Robert Freier of Highmore; daughters: Kay of Pierre, Nancy of Pierre, and Roberta of El Monte, CA; two grandchildren: Kristin of Sioux Falls and Eric of Pierre; and three brothers: Frank (Georgia) Church of Seattle, WA, George (Jane) Church of Greensburg, PA, and Joe Church of Harrisburg, PA.

She was preceded in death by her parents; infant daughter, Angela; brother, Denny; and sister-in-law, Eileen Church.
