Kathleen A. Joachim, 77, of the South Dakota Veteran’s Home of Hot Springs and formerly of Agar, passed away, Friday, January 25, 2013 at Rapid City Regional Hospital.
Funeral services were held at 1:00 P.M., Tuesday, January 29, 2013 at Holy Cross Lutheran Church, Onida with Pastor Luke Edwards officiating. Burial followed in the Onida Cemetery. Visitation was held from 5:00 to 7:00 P.M., Monday, January 28, 2013 at the church with a 7:00 P.M. prayer service.
Kathleen Johnson was born August 7, 1935 in Faulkton, SD to Alvah and Anna Martha (Sawatzke) Johnson. She was a twin with Keith Alan. They grew up in the Tolstoy area and she graduated from Gettysburg High School in 1953.
On April 17, 1955 she was united in marriage to Donald Joachim at Emmanuel Lutheran Church in Gettysburg. They made their home in Pierre for a short time and then lived the remainder of her life in Sully County. Kathy worked as a secretary for the Potter County ASCS office, was a homemaker for many years and then completed her working years with the Oahe Manor in Gettysburg where she worked in housekeeping, laundry and finally as a CNA until her retirement in the early 2000’s.
Kathleen’s life was filled with the joy of all her hobbies, which included; sewing, gardening, baking, raising chickens, crocheting, fishing and following the Minnesota Twins. She and Donald loved to square dance and travel to visit family. Her children and grandchildren were her life. She enjoyed hearing about the involvement of their sports and activities.
Kathy was a member of St. John’s Lutheran Church in Agar where she was active in L.W.M.L., taught Sunday school, vacation bible school and was a circuit camp cook. She also belonged to the American Legion Auxiliary and the Disabled American Veterans Auxiliary.
Those left to cherish Kathy’s life are her husband, Donald of the South Dakota Veteran’s Home of Hot Springs; her children: James (Eunice) Joachim of Gardena, CA, Steven (Ann) Joachim of Spearfish, Janet Beck of Henderson, NV, Mark (Barbara) Joachim of Corsica, Sharon (Andrew) Albaugh of Robinson, IL, and Martha (Shaun) Pearson of Sabetha, KS; her grandchildren: Meggan & Drew Joachim, Kevin & Mariah Beck, Angela, Brian, Jacob, & Adam Joachim, Lindell (Lindsey), Cody & Kyle Albaugh, and Paul, Naomi, & Lily Pearson; great granddaughter, Lilana Albaugh; and two sisters-in-law: Linda Johnson of Gettysburg and Shirley (Joe) Fanger of Blunt.
She was preceded in death by her parents; brothers: Milton and Keith Johnson; and a sister, Ruth Titze.

Kathy was a dedicated Sunday School teacher and I have fond memories of her.
