Kenneth Deiter, 91, of Faulkton, passed away Saturday, April 21, 2012 at the Faulkton Healthcare Center, surrounded by family and care takers.
Funeral services were held at 10:30 a.m., Saturday, April 28, 2012 at Our Savior Lutheran Church, Faulkton with Pastor Tammy Craker officiating. Burial followed at the Faulkton Cemetery with military honors. Visitation was held from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m., Friday, April 27, 2012 with a 7:00 p.m. prayer service, all at the church.
Kenneth Elvin Deiter was delivered by Dr. Abby Jarvis at 4:00 a.m. in a farm house north of Faulkton on a -20 degree night on January 23, 1921. He was the first born child to Charlie and Gladys (Reed) Deiter. His childhood years were spent on the farm, also north of Faulkton, that would later be owned and operated by his brother Delmar. He graduated from Faulkton High School and worked with his father, Charlie, at the implement dealership established in 1939. He served in the military for three years during WW II during which time he served in Africa, Egypt and Italy. Upon returning from service to his country, he entered into business at the implement dealership.
He was united in marriage on April 14th, 1948 to Doris Matter, following a 4 month courtship. They owned and operated Deiter Implement until 1956 at which time the implement business was sold and they moved to the current location of “Deiter Farms”. The original 640 acres was purchased for $32 an acre and expanded to 6,560 acres under his direction. Kenneth and Doris retired back to Faulkton in 1987 building a new home back on their original location. He entered the Faulkton Healthcare center in April 2010 and received incredible care until the time of his passing. He was a long standing board member at FEM, a member of Our Saviors Lutheran Church, a member of the American Legion and Masons and a long-time supporter of Lakeside Country Club.
Kenneth had two brothers: Delmar (Loreve) Deiter, Doyle (Jean) Deiter and one sister, Arlene (Mort) Jarvis.
Out of respect for an incredible man, his entire family gathered to pay tribute during Easter two weeks ago, 52 in all. His four children: Barbara (Bill, Jr.) Schilder of Faulkton, Douglas (Sandy Michels) of Faulkton, Darlys (Jerry) Kolda of Rapid City and Roger (Beth Nelson) of Faulkton; Twelve Grandchildren: Nikki (Ryan) Melius; Heather (Beau) Wisness; Justin (Stevie) Schilder; Angie (Kent) Borstad; Kelly (Sam) Aesoph; Kevin (Carrie Huss) Deiter; Lindsay (Ryan) Martenson; Terra (Ty) Pevonka; Trisha (Greg) Rieffenberger; Travis Haan; Shauna Deiter and friend Zack Remily; Chelsea Deiter and friend Adam Odden; Twenty Two Great Grandchildren: Morgan, Peyton, Addison and Spencer Melius; Amelia and Clara Wisness; Jacob William Schilder; Makenna, Madison and Trevor Boss; Jack, Alex, Isabelle and Anna Aesoph; Grace, Max and Kenly Martenson; Avery, Camryn and Charlie Deiter; Gabby and Madelyn Rieffenberger.
Kenneth was preceded in death by his wife; his parents; an infant brother; his brother, Doyle, a sister-in-law, Verna and a niece, Diane.
In lieu of flowers, memorials can be directed to Our Savior Lutheran Church or the Faulkton Healthcare Center.

Some people enrich our lives while on this earth. Some continue to enrich our hearts and lives through the memories we have of our time together. Kenneth loved his family ever so much and cherished the time you all spent together. He also cared about others and was very appreciate of everything that was done for him. He touched my life and for that I am grateful. I am going to miss him. My sympathy to all of you. Concentrate on the memories. It will ease the pain.

Although the passing of a loved one always brings great sadness, we celebrate the life of Kenneth and the wonderful family that he and Doris brought into the world.
I will forever cherish the wonderful summer vacations to Faulkton as I was growing up and the time spent with “Uncle Kenny” as he drove me around the farm. He wanted to show the CA kid all about farm living!
